Hi,

This problem occurs due to the "you've got mail" sound that plays when you check your email was triggering this Ulead MP3 codec v1.0.18 message. Turn off the sound in AOL settings and it will solve the problem.

Not supported file format what does this mean

It means that whatever you are trying to play is not compatible with the player. It could also mean that the media you want to play is faulty, so even though it says it can play MP3 files for instance, and you are trying to play an MP3 file, it's so corrupted that it can't recognise the file as being an MP3.
Often the player requires a CODEC to play some files. If you player is the type that can accept new CODECS, such as Windows Media Player, you can get them free online by searching for "K-Lyte CODEC Packs".

Everytime I try to play a video on it a error

A codec is a plugin used to code and decode different video and audio formats. In literal terms it defines for the computer the meanings of each bit of code presented by the video file. Operating systems have inbuilt some of these codecs. For eg. you can play MP3 music in Windows XP or Vista because the translator (i.e.codec) of such a file is inbuilt in it. So your problem is that you are missing some of this. It is very easy to resolve, just do this
  1. KLite is a collection of codecks packed in one. For more detail vist their site. Download it from here. It is free.

  1. Install it and you are done. Good luck.

My dell gateway M305 doesn't hold a charge. If i take it off ac power for even a minute it will notify me of critical battery power, then power down shortly afterwards. Can anyone help?

Replace the Battery.

(Have it tested first to be sure that's the problem)

If you find that the battery is functioning properly, then the problem is your AC Power Adapter (power cord) so replace whichever one doesnt work.........in otherwords, take it to any place that sells dells, ask them to test your battery vs a new one, and your power cord as well!

Hey

If the video file you are trying to convert is in AVI format, get an AVI codec. If it is in FLV format, get an FLV codec. Same with Mpeg. The codecs are available for free online from many websites.

Yahoo messenger has stopped working

I have gotten this issue several times being a tech for the HP notebook division and I found a simple solution for it.

Right Click on the Yahoo! Messenger icon on the desktop and select properties.
Click on the Compatibility Mode tab
Check the box at the top to enable it and make sure the mode is Windows XP SP2.
Select ok.
Restart machine.

I hope this works for you all. =)

CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive

What DVD playback program are you using? Intervideo WinDVD is the best for-pay one, but you might look into Media Player Classic and VLC Media Player. Also, search google for K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and install it. It has the codecs required to play most movie formats. This could just be an issue of a broken codec. I would also recommend updating your video drivers (the screen that changes the color bit depth should tell you what kind of video adapter your laptop has; go to the manufacturer's website and get the latest driver).
