I had this problem too with my M1210. The first time it was under warranty, and I had the Dell people come out. They ended up doing this simple fix:

Remove the battery
Hold the power button down for several seconds, then release
remove the power cord
Hold the power down and insert the power cord (keep holding button)

This worked for me the second time it happened, 2 years later (i.e. tonight). I came here trying to find the exact sequence of steps, but since they weren't here I had to just peform random button presses until I remembered how to do it. I hope this works for you.

Dell XPS M1210 Stuck on blue screen due to hard drive

To determine if your hard drive is bad or good, run the Dell diagnostics.
Here is a link for the owner's manual of your model:

I was watching a video in my Dell XPS M1210 when it suddenly stopped and the screen when blank. I unplugged it and tried to switch on but I still get a blank screen but the power button has lights as well...

The inverter or backlight on the display may have gone out. Connect an external VGA monitor to the laptop. If it works, then the display has a bad inverter or the backlight CCFL lamp went out.

I have a Dell XPS M1210 laptop for which I have just purchased a new 9-cell compatible battery. It worked great for a couple of hours, but now shuts off immediately when unplugged from the AC power supply....

You might want to try what I did when I had a completely discharged battery for my Dell Laptop. I attached the battery to the computer, make sure the computer is off and plug in the charger for a full twenty four hours (undisturbed). And this really worked. I had no problems with the battery. Good luck.

Loud Noise on laptop when booting

Most likely it is the POST throttling up the fan to 100% during boot up. Then it switches over to ACPI(?) power manangement and Windows manages your fan speed to extend battery life.

Suggestions:
Go to Dell Support Site https://support.dell.com/support/supportrequests/create.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
Download the latest BIOS updates and run it.

If it continues, try a can of compressed air, and breifly blow out any debris from the system fan. Bits of paper and critter-fur can get sucked up into the system.

Dell m1210 does not boot up - quickly powers off

I suspect the safety circuits is detecting a big power drain. What I would do is pull one thing off at a time and see if it stays on. Such like hard drive, memory, and anything else you can. Even disconnecting the LCD if you have too.

Another possibility is that your battery is bad. Try to boot up without the battery and just on AC. No help? Maybe the AC is bad. Try running on the battery alone and no AC.

That pretty much covers everything. If nothing works above, it is the motherboard. :(

Wet Dell XPS M1210

I would try cleaning the terminals on the battery and the computer with an old toothbrush and simple green or other multi-purpose cleaner, that doesn't leave residue.
