Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

Dometic roof top air-con trouble

I have a roof mounted air-con that has just begun to leak (only a small amount) immediately after it is turned off. It's leaking from the center of the unit.
The heating function is never used though may be required in a few months. I pushed the "fresh/cool" button and noticed a smell of smoke, about 30seconds later the circuit breaker jumped. Every time now I push the "fresh/cool" button the circuit breakers start jumping.
Needless to say the cooling function of this unit still works great.

Hope you can help.

I live in the tropics and there has been quite a bit of rain lately. I have checked the outlets and at least one is definately working. Maybe I'll look at taking the evaporator out (if easy enough) and really make sure that area is clean. I may as well (as soon as the rain stops) take the lid off and air hose any dirt out. The unit is only 2 years old and the heating element would of rarely (if at all) been used. Maybe a combination of water and dirt is just causing a short at the switch?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Sounds like you have a short in the heat but the leaking part is a clogged drain

I would like to know if my Honda 2kva generator will run my air con dometic roof top B3000

I dont think so as this will be too much for the generator which has only 2 KVA as capacity.
Though the rated power is 2 KVA it will be safe to use it only upto about 1.6KVA.
The AC will require a lot of current on start up than in running and so it might no be good to have it strained.

A/c hums when you turn on. a/c ran before then when shut off all it does is hum

Two things to check. One: look for the start capacitor and make sure it is not blown out the top or black and burnt. There is an anticipatory on top of the capacitor also that could have burnt out.
Then make sure nothing on the out side stuck the fan blade in place and not let it turn. That is really three things, But the charge is never the problem on Roof top air for RV's. Small amount in the system leaks out fast if line bad. AC unit has no taps because it is a closed system not designed to recharge. That doesn't you can't charge the system, it just means someone telling you to tape the line just to test pressure is not really going to fix the problem. Air flow and cleanness of unit on evaporator and condenser is important. You can hear the compressor running if is working. If fan not turning check for being stuck.

Drain for a colelam rv air conditioer

It is entirely possible that a five minute test would not produce any noticeable amount of water. Turn off everything in the house that is using electricity and your 20 AMP service will be sufficient to run your AC.
