No it does'nt, I had a lexmark and used to remove the cover to refill it was easy. The Brother appears to be more of a sealed unit maybe if you know someone who has a Brother?

I am having the same difficulties I am attempting to add ink to the cartridge but do not know where to add it to. Do I take the tape of and then remove the outter casing. Wait my 13 year old son has figured it out...

Remove the tape gently, conserving it to replace it, gently pry the outter casing off and gently but slowly add alittle at a time through the sall hole in the bottom. Take the syring out a few times to allow air.

    Thanks Mancub...

Hello, it is always a bit offputting the first time you go to do it, but once you have you will not look back, you save so much money. I only go throught 3-4 cartridges a year now i refill and amazingly i get 7-8 refills each cartridge on my lexmark x1185

Please describe your cartridge, does it have alittle plastic cover over top?

I have mfc 440cn. Do I need to replace the drum?

Hello,

The MFC-440CN does not have a drum.
The only consumables this printer has is ink cartridges.

These wil need to be changed when they are empty.

Thanks,

Brother MFC-440CN USB Printer double prints letters

Did you use Brother Genuine Cartirdges????
ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc. These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine.

When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, mis-align the letters & put stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Only black cartridge empty, but 3 full color crtrige say empty

Remove the color cartridges. On one end you can see the opaque
ink tank inside the main cart. housing. Cut a piece of black electrical
tape to fit around the three sides visible of the ink tank. Make sure the tape fits inside the housing and adheres to the tank itself. This makes the printer think your ink is always full but you can always tell when you need to refill/replace the ink(right?). Good Luck!

Oh brother

I don't think there is a reset procedure for resetting MFC 3240c cartridges.
Professional refill facilities use a code reset device on cartridges.
Users that want to refill their own cartridges often use a piece of cellotape or plastic bag to cover cartridge sensor. This can damage printers head if ink goes too low and printer keeps printing.
My suggestion: stay away from troubles and buy original cartridges.

Cartridge? problem

If you are using or have used third party generic ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges, the Cartridge Sensor printed circuit board may have been damaged. We have found that some third party generic ink cartridges leak onto the ink cartridge sensor circuit board causing an electrical short of the ink cartridge sensors. The damage from the leaked ink results in the machine displaying NO CARTRIDGE because the machine will no longer recognize the installed ink cartridge(s). Genuine Brother ink cartridges do not cause this issue because of the unique design developed to fit specifically in the Brother products. As long as a Brother cartridge has not been refilled, the Brother cartridge will not leak.

Cartridge not detected

This problem seems to be caused by the gray horseshoe-shaped sensor behind the cartridges. I tried cleaning them with a cotton swab, and found that the "No Cartridge" message turned off when the swab was in the sensor.

So if you put something (like a tiny piece of cotton) in the cavity about halfway up the cartridge (so that it takes up space in the sensor when you replace the cartridge), you can trick the sensor into thinking the cartridge is there.
If it doesnt work the first time, try rearranging the cotton (or whatever you put) or putting more in.
