Im Chad from Dell and it looks to me that you may need to Flash the BIOS. If that does not work you may need driver for updating the video card of the system. This may be a also a known issue for the system specially if system is running vista. Try also to go to website of Compaq and install the latest driver.

Pink lines running across screen

Sounds like your lcd screen is bad and needs to be replaced. Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the laptop. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok without the lines, then your video card inside the computer is good but your lcd screen is bad. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same lines as your lcd screen then your video card inside the computer is bad.

It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the video shows on the external monitor that proves your video card is ok, ,but your lcd screen is bad. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Your lcd screen is going bad or your video card inside the computer is bad. To isolate the problem Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the laptop. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok then your video card is good and the lcd screen on your laptop is bad. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same lines as your lcd screen, then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Top half of my monitor screen shows at the bottom

Try plugging an external monitor to your laptop and see how it displays on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old fat crt's as long as it has a vga cable that will connect to your laptops vga port.

If the display does not immediately show up, then you will have to hit the FN (Function key)+(F1 thru F12) to show the image. Press and Hold the FN key then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key. The correct F1 thru F12 key will have either CRT/LCD written on it or it will have a display icon on it.

If the image displays correctly on your external monitor, then you will need to replace your lcd screen.

Screen particially blacking out with vertical lines at bottom of my DELL laptop. at the bottom of laptop screen there are vertical lines @ 2" they are blue, dark gray, white, purple, light green lines....

Tryconnecting an external monitor to the laptop. You may have to select the videooutput to display on the external monitor by holding down the blue key and pressing the blue CRT/LCD (located on one of the keys, likeF8,F9, etc..). If the problem occurs on the external monitor with the batteryor AC power, then you have a problem with either the video card or motherboardin the laptop. If the problem does not happen using the external monitor thenyou laptop's LCD display is going bad.

Lenovo Thinkpad SL400 - Screen flickers at the bottom of the screen every 5 seconds or so,also showing a green dotted line and a magenta dotted line below it?

Your screen is starting to go bad which is why the lines and dots are starting to show up. If your laptop is under warranty then call IBM to get it replaced. If its not under warranty then you'll need to replace the screen.
This is just one example but on Ebay this particular person is selling the screen for about $100 with free shipping. It's not mine but its located here. Do your own searches thru Google just to see if you might be able to get it for cheaper.

Defective LCD Screen. Since its new it should be under warranty. Here is the tech support number for Toshiba:

If your warranty is thru the store you bought it from then you might have to go thru the store so keep that in mind.

Can a cracked notebook screen be replaced?

you don't have to purchase a new laptop/all you have to do is call your computer manufacture and get the LCD replaced.
or else
you can connect a desktop monitor with your laptop if you have a desktop
as its cracked so only thing we can do is either get the LCD replaced or connect a monitor with it to use your system.
