The E74 error is caused by the scaler chip at the back of the console taking too much heat. To fix it you need to stop the heat build up.

You can do this yourself using a good guide that will show you how to fix it with household items or you can send it in and they will fix it for you.

What would be wrong when e 74 stays up on the screen on my x box 360

An E74 error is indicated when the lower-right quadrant of the ring indicator flashes red and displays an error message in multiple languages: "System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support", with the code E74 at the bottom . The error is caused when there's a video problem, because the Xbox 360's hardware scaler chip is damaged.

Start the repair process online.

Microsoft covers repairs for the E74 error for a period of three (3) years from the original purchase date of the console. If you are outside the initial three-year warranty period, you can still receive console repair service from Microsoft for a fee for the E74 error. For more information about the E74 warranty extension, see the following article:

When i turn the xbox on it says system error. contact xbox customer service. E74

The E74 error indicates there is a hardware malfunction inside the console. If the console is under warrenty you may want to send it in, but they will send you a replacement refurbished console. If you want to try to fix it your self the RROD fix usually fixes the E74 since the RROD usually follows the E74. Check out this video. I hope this helps,

E74 system error

Hi!

There's plenty of resources to draw on relating to this problem. Here's a couple of websites that offer advice:
I beleive in some instances, Microsoft may extend your warranty to cover a E74 error (even if your standard warranty has expired). It might be worth giving their customer support hotline a call (the number for your country is available from www.xbox.com)

Hope this helps!
