Black vertical line along left margin when using the adf to scan.

When I scan a stack of documents in the ADF, it produces a a 'fixed black vertical line ' along the left margin of the scanned documents. I have tried cleaning the glass (including the small piece of glass) with qtips/alcohol...but I still have the black line.
Do I need to remove the glass to clean thoroughly? D
Do I need to replace or repair the ADF?
Any suggestions?

Thanks, ABinns at [email protected]

Hi,

Check both the Fuser Unit and the Cartridge for lines . In any of the rollers are found with a line that means it needs to be replaced.

My scan has a black line running vertically. how do I get rid of the line?

The Black Line running vertically on the page can be a couple of things.

1) If you are using the ADF (Auto Document Feeder) then the most likely cause is a mark on the ADF Scanner Glass normally caused by something going through the ADF with wet ink on it usually a page that has been written on with a Ball Point pen and the ink had not dried fully before it was fed through. If you lift the top of the printer so you can see the full glass scanner plate on the left had side you will see a smaller strip of glass/plastic that is used for ADF scanning. Clean this using Window Cleaner or Rubbing Alcohol.

2) if you are not using the ADF, or if you are and the previous option did not fix the problem then it could be a scanner bulb issue which would require a service technician replacing the scanner bulb. If the printer is under warrantee then this should not cost anything. If it is not in warantee then replacing the printer would be cheaper.

Black vertical lines when scanning on canon mx420

the ocr sensor in the ADF needs to be replaced, I would recommend replacing the whole ADF as a whole.

My officejet pro 8500A prints black vertical lines down the page when I make a copy. I have cleaned and aligned the printheads. What else can I do?

Happened with me too. Turned out to be a small sticky smudge on the ADF glass. That is the smaller glass scan area to the left of the large glass scanning area.
When using the ADF to scan or copy, make sure the smaller glass area is clean along with the rollers.

When using the ADF for scanning to pdf, it creates black lines vertically down the left side of the document. If I use the flatbed scanner, no lines.

One sided scanning is fine, but two sided scans have a 1/4 inch black line vertically down the left side. Cleaning does nothing.

When you say one sided scans are OK, are you using the ADF (auto document feeder) or the flatbed? Are you using the ADF for the two sided scan? What parts have you cleaned thus far? A little more info please?

thanks

Vertical line appears in scans using the ADF, but not with copies

happened to me after i fed a page with not-too-hard whiteout on it. the feeder makes the page run through a different piece of glass and i just had to clean it.

Black vertical lines on faxes sent using auto document feeder

If you lift up the lid on your scanning device you will notice a glass strip about 1 inch thick and then the large area of glass used for flatbed scanning. The 1 inch strip is used for ADF scanning. Because your papper is moving across the glass strip, any dot, smudge or scratch will affect your scanning and cause verticial lines down the page. Sometimes the dot is not visible to the eye. Get some glass cleaner that has alcohol in it and thoroughly clean the glass strip and it should solve your problem. If it turns out to be a scratch on the glass then cleaning won't help.

Lines on paper through the ADF when making copies

there is a dirt on the ADF (CIS contact image sensor) that reads your document, identify where the lines came from either from top or bottom then open your adf and clean the affected area. this will solve the problem.

Colored Vertical Lines when ADF Scanning

the scanner system using ADF is not the same as in using from the platen glass, (CIS usually called contact image sensor) reads your document and sends the info to be printed, chances are your CIS assembly could be dirty and have some dirt on its surface, try opening this area on the top of ADF and clean with a moistened cloth, especially the affeced left margin, it should work!
