pins are all straight and present,
it has, I havew trie 2 Fully charged battery (tried 2 of them) 2 Memory card ( 1 brand new)
When the battery is in, memory card in, I turn it on and nothing, LCD screen is blank, I get a SSWF flash(blue) occasionally and I get a Red Led flash from on top of the memory compartment.
IF I open the card cover, it reports card cover open on the LCD Screen, Close it and it goes black again. I take the memory card out and the camera works fine, I can access all the items on the screen, focus, etc.

I do not think it is the card reader as when the card cover is open, with the card in, it tells me the cover is open, I depressed the pin or detent switch by hand it dies or goes black
cards read fine in my desktop

  • Michael Iriwn Feb 16, 2008

BUT it works without the card in it,zoom, auto focus, shuter etc,
IF the ccd was bad, it would not work at all, just like the shutter. If it did not work or was slow or stuck, it would not matter if the card was in or not. Like a light switch either on or off, no in between

  • Michael Iriwn Feb 16, 2008

I have reformatted, I just reformatted both of them again.
    Next idea?

  • Michael Iriwn Feb 16, 2008

I do not know if it is in high angle mode, but I have set it back to factory defaults.

    Olympus E-300
    OK,
With this camera, with fresh battery, new media card and card cover closed, I get nothing on the LCD, I get intermittent flash from the SSWF and the red led on the memory card indicator. NOTHING ELSE WORKS.
If I open the card cover door, the lcd displays Card Cover OPEN, and I cannot do anything.
IF I take the card out, IT displays LCD, I can take pictures ( cannot store them) but the auto focus works and everything is as it should be. I can access the menu and have reset everything back to default
IT seems to go dead when the detent pin/switch is depressed on the card cover door .
I have charged 3 batteries and tried them all, Have 2 memory card,1 a brand new Lexar 2 gb , the other an older Kodak 1 gb card. Both work fine in the desktop card reader. Have formatted them several times to no avail .
Have checked the pins in the card slot, all appear to be clean and straight, no corrosion what so ever.
I have tried differnt lens, still no good

HELP, this is driving me crazy

  • Michael Iriwn Feb 16, 2008

    Hi,

I encountered exactly the same problem just this morning with my E-300. I had been using it for 2 years already and suddenly I can no longer use it. I tried all the suggestions here except consulting the service center. Any chance that this problem was already resolved?

    Regards,

Unfortunately your camera must be taken to an authorized service station because board may have cracks or memory socket is damaged it is impossible to repair at home.

Hi,

It sound like a bent pin issue.
Look at the bottom of the memory card slot, you probably bent one or more of the contactor pins. Use a small screwdriver and carefully try to straight the bent pin then carefully put the memory card back in.
From now on, use a USB cable for downloading your pictures and don't pull the card out anymore as the pin is probably weaker than before and can break.

I strongly suggest you to get it repaired if you can't it by urself.

Goodluck..

Normally there are two reasons for the given problem.

1). Bad or defective CCD. and/or

    2). shutter not working.

    in
the first case the only solution is the replacement of the CCD.
    Please click HERE

    And in
the later case sticking of shutter blade, non functioning of shutter
blade will cause the problem. This can be rectified by sending it to
    some repairer.

Ok...it appears that your card reader is really in trouble. Can you inspect the inside, to ensure that no gunk crept inside? That would explain some of the issue.

Can you test those memory cards on a reader on a laptop, to ensure that they are not corrupted, just in case?

On the SD card there is a little switch you can move. It has 2 positions, LOCKED, and UNLOCKED. To make the card available, put the switch in the UNLOCKED position.
Here is an example-

If that doesn't work, try putting the card into a memory card reader, like on your PC or a special USB attachment. If the memory card is recognized, then it might be a problem with your camera.

Camera stop working after I put the memory card

The camera may not support a 2GB memory card, or the card may not be formatted properly.

Can't format memory card in A510 Canon digital camera.

Have you used this card in the past? Is this a new card?

Is this card rated to be used with this camera. Some cameras can only support cards of certain sizes.

If the card is compatible, take the card to target or best buy and format it on a camera there and see if it works then put it back in your camera and see if it works after.

Can't reformat my memory card

Hello

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
