I have an Akai AD151X DVD player, only background sound for R4 discs.

Where is the "stop" button on the dvd player ?

fiddle with the settings, like i did. go into the setup menu of the dvd player, then in the audio menu (this is what i have, and it worked for me) select the following options:
Bass management: On
Front Speakers: Large
Center Speaker: None
Surround Speakers: None
Subwoofer: None
Test Tones: Off
Center Spkr Delay: No Delay
Surr Spkr Delay: No Delay
Digital Output: RAW
