System sound problem my comp what can i do

If you have your pc's drivers cd, you can uninstall the audio driver (click on start, right click on my computer, choose properties, device manager, look for the audio device, right click on itand click on uninstall) then just reinstall the audio driver from the drivers cd.

My dvd/cd drive in not reading or working at all.

Try and clean the lens of the drive, test again , If the DVD is spinning and trying to read without success then it is possible that the drive is faulty.
You can recheck using device manager to see the properties of the CD drive , reinstall the driver, if DVD still spins without success then the drive can be the suspect.
