Question about ASUS M2A-VM (0610839149438) Motherboard

M2A-VM Audio problems

Suddenly my onboard sound on my Asus M2A-VM Motherboard has started stuttering and occasionally playing what seems like half-speed. This occurred overnight. Windows Updates are disabled. I have reinstalled the audio drivers on the Asus CD but no luck.

Is there a known issue with the onboard sound which suddenly starts happening? PC has been running since Nov 2007 with no issues.

Asus does have Updated software for, Realtek ALC883 Audio Driver V5.10.0.5404 for Windows 2000/XP & 64bit XP (WHQL).
Dated: 2007/09/24
There is also an update for the Bios which includes an Update Realtek PXE ROM to V2.08 dated 2007/12/4. To look at these updates & others click the link below. The link will open to your board with Linux opened. Just click, Latest or All at the top of the window.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=M2A-VM&type=map&mapindex=7
If the updates do not help remember your board is warranted for three years through Asus. You can call Asus Tech at: 812-282-2787. IL EST. It sounds to me that the onboard audio chip is going. I checked all FAQ's & found no complaints about the onboard sound.
Hope this helps & leads to a fix..
please vote... Luck!

The link I listed above shows (ALL Updates) for the Board M2A-VM from Asus. No where will you find the 4 in 1 drivers like you got when you received the board & it's CD. Only individual drivers. Some Asus drivers are the same as the ones you have on you current CD. I was surprised to see an update for the Realtek ALC883. I went through all drivers listed & found alot of updates including chipset driver updates.

I do alot of work on Asus boards. In the past year I've worked on 18 differant models & triple boards, like A8N5X & A8N32-SLI Deluxe's. I listed that link above so you wouldn't have to fill out Asus fill in the dropdown menues. If you want to go through the driver download page your self the link is: http://support.asus.com/download/downloa... You will need to fill in the three dropdown windows under (Please Select the Product). They are as follows.

    Motherboard

    SocketAM2/AM2+

    M2A-VM

Click Search. After the page loads compair the link I posted to the link on your screen. I have talked with Asus Tech more times than I can recall. The calls averages are less than 5 minutes. Most boards I have trouble shooted are like your's. Intergrated devices. Mic's not functioning, defective Audio controller, SATA controllers defective. SATA not seen by bios. I'm including two other links for your board. Northbridge AMD 690G driver:

http://techreport.com/articles.x/11931/1 & Southbridge ATI SB600 driver: http://bluwiki.com/go/ASUS_M2R-FVM#Windo... Sound Card (Realtek ALC883 High Definition Audio Codec), one dated 1/2/2008. I must admitt I'm bummed you rated me as helpful. I can not fix a defective controller on your board but I have listed enough information for you to reach a fix. If I had your board I'd make the call to Asus. No one likes to be without their board but it's worth it when it's defective.

M2a-vm mother board

Hi auriaskate,
Currently you are using the onboard PCI video adapter. This graphics adapter uses you're system memory to function.
If there is a problem with you're system memory the beeps can lead one to think there is a problem with the onboard video.
You can not remove the onboard adapter so there may be a problem with you're system memory. (I doupt you're memory is bad) but on the other hand it might not be fully installed correctely. Power off the PC & unplug the power cord from the PC.
Please remove you're system memory & firmly reseat it.
Plug the power cord back in. Start the PC & listen for any beeps except the 1 normal beep known as P.O.S.T = Power on self test. Any beeps after that there is a problem with a device connected to the board.
You're Asus M2A-VM uses an Award bios. Click on the link below to see what Award beeps mean.
http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm

Try the memory reseat & check. Let me know if this helped.

No sound device in Sounds and Audio Devices after Realtek Sound Driver install

Download the attachment I found, unpack it into your folder of choice.
Then move over to the control panel and select that "PCI Device". Rightclick and install the audio bus drivers I provided for the PCI Device. During installation Windows should find something like Microsoft UAA Bus driver, I don't know the exact name. Do a restart after installation and everything should work fine.
