More than likely your headset needs to be replaced or it could be a internal problem with the zune. if under warranty replace it if not the cost money.

Zune only plays music out of one ear

When I first got my Zune the sound was really bad, but it turned out that I hadn't pushed the headphone jack all the way in. Don't be afraid to use a little force because it's necessary. I'm not sure if this is what's wrong or not, though. Hopefully it's a not a problem with the device.

1) Insert the CD that comes with your zune.
2) wait for prompt, connect your zune through the USB cable.
3) New firmware will be installed on the zune.
4) Open the program called 'Zune' from "My Computer".
5) If your music is not in the default My Music folder, click Options > Add Folder To Library > Add Folder. Browse to select your folder, then click OK.
5) Click the circle made out of two arrows, this is your sync button.
6) A new tab with appear on the right side of the program, click Start Sync at the bottom.
7) Wait until you see Sync Complete, disconnect your zune and enjoy.

I can ear the music but the screen stays black

The pixels may have burnt out in the screen. You may have to send it in to microsoft to get it replaced or fixed. You can still hook it into your computer and save all the files and songs on the zune currently.

No sound out of one of the earbuds

YOU HAVE A STEREO JACK, LOOKING AT THE EAR JACK THERE ARE 2 COLORED CIRCLES AROUND THE STEEL EAR JACK WHICH DESIGNATE STEREO, ONE COLORED CIRCLE IS MONO-ONE SIDE, IF YOU HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT SETS THEN YOUR EAR JACK IS NOT MAKING A GOOD CONNECTION TO YOUR STEREO EAR JACK AND ONLY GIVING YOU SOUND TO ONE SIDE(MONO), AND MIGHT NEED REPAIRED

ZUne screen is black!

Ah, these are old posts and everyone has probably solved their dilemmas by tossing the player or returning it. So, in the interest of getting these posts off the grid...

.. "mellojanelle" & "Guest on Jan 11: Y'all plug the Zune in. Software is not open, you should get the Main menu on the device screen. Software *is* open, you should get "Connected" on the screen. You get nada, except for a "clicking" sound (which should be heard from the back or the front.
.. That is your hard drive screaming thru its death throes, I think. Maybe try this, or this, and finally, this.

.. "Guest on Feb 21": Well, heck, try the above links, too. I don't think your HD is goin' on the fritz, is all.

Only have sound on right side

I don't know if you used new earphones but if you did I would try to clean the inside of the mp3 player then reconnect youre earphone. If you still have the problem return to the store, then the hardware in the mp3 itself is wrong.

No right ear audio

This is caused by the output jack on your zune, what happened was when your headphones were plugged in they got bent or twisted and it moved half of the holder away so it is not touching the cable when it is plugged in, you will probably have to send your Zune into microsoft to have this fixed.
