If you look right next to the white on you should see a - symbol solder it to there and see if that works.

The screen is black but everything still works but there is no picture.

Three possible problems:
1. You've accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera.
2. You're experiencing a "Stuck Shutter"
3. You're experiencing "CCD Image Sensor Failure"
4. You have a loose electrical ribbon cable connection to your LCD screen (would require opening your camera and reinserting the LCD screen cable more securely into its socket connector).

Dmc-fz20 when turned on camera was turning on & off. i want to remove the back cover to check the switch. the flash unit appears to hold the top section in place. do you know how it comes appart.

To get the back off, remove the 4 visible screws on rear side of the cover. You'll then see that its attached at the flash holder. Don't try and force it, there are 2 hidden screws underneath the external flash slot. To access them, you need to slide back the thin metal cover. Place a small screwdriver at the front of the square which holds the external flash and try to push back the metal plate. (I found this by accident having spent hours trying to the back off). It comes off very easily.

Once the back cover comes off you need to remove the 2 ribbon cables and 2 sets of wires. The ribbon cabes come easily once you push down on the small black blobs either side of the cable.

White screen (no picture) when camera is turned on.

It is probably an issue with the LCD display panel of your camera. It may be just a LCD connector cable coming loose or the panel itself is damaged(Kodak cameras are notorious for this issue). Fortunately it is a relatively inexpensive repair. If the camera is under warranty make use of it to get it replaced for free. Note that the warranty is void if there has been a water lodge or if you take it apart yourself.

The screen went black.

I can only offer advice if you're feeling adventurous which may lead to a solution. Intermittent faults are a real pain and could be located in any one of several places, however, the screen is fairly easy to access with a tri-blade screwdriver and a small pozi-driver. ( The tri-blades are available on eBay.) Remove the battery and memory card if fitted. The camera back panel can be released from the main body by removing 5 screws, 2 on each side of the camera body, and 1 on the bottom nearest the screen. Tease the camera apart but take care, because a flat ribbon cable joins the two parts. The 2 halves can remain connected but opened out, outsides face down. The screen is revealed. If you gently lift the screen with a fingernail on the opposite side to screen ribbon cable it can be lifted across revealing the ribbon cable socket. Your possible fault could be a poor connection to this socket, unlikely, but possible. Any sign of misalignment or incomplete insertion could be the problem.( The ribbon socket normally comes in white with a black clamping strip.) The ribbon cable is released by inserting a fingernail under the edge of the black strip away from the ribbon cable and gently lifting - the cable may then be eased from the socket. Just replacing and re-clamping may clear a connection problem but a quick wipe with clean tissue would help. Any signs of marks or heaven forbid corrosion, would need more attention. A second area for scrutiny is the backlight connection, which is a soldered connection adjacent to the main ribbon on the screen sub-assembly. To date, spare screen parts come as 2 sub-assemblies, the LCD, and the backlight. One or other of the soldered joints could be dry. The greatest of care should be taken if a soldering iron enters the equation. If this doesn't help, then return to Fuji repair centre. I have assumed that said camera is out of warranty and you've got nothing to lose.
