Mechanics don't engage at all. It's completely locked up, with no threads caught in any place. Hand wheel and clutch knob do not connect, but the clutch knob repeatedly loosens.

If the Handwheel (big knob) is moving but the needle is not moving, you need to engage the clutch ........depending on the model

- push handwheel in to engage, pull out to disengage
or
- if there is a smaller wheel inside the handwheel, tighten to engage, loosen to release.

BUT if all is jammed........

Check for threads that are jamming the motion of the hook around where the bobbin case is

If your bobbin goes in from the top, remove the needleplate and bobbincase remove thread jams by gently rocking handwheel back and forth until released.

Clean around the hook race with a rag moistened with methylated spirit, surgical spirit or similar, then reassemble.

If front loading, open the door for bobbin case area, release 2 retaining clips holding the collar on (take note of the position/orientation for when you re-assemble....even take a digi photo to refer to !?!).....
......then just do jam removal & clean out in much the same way as for the top loader.

In all cases, don't force too much or be too brutal, gentle and patient works best, try to judge where the jam is caught and work with it slowly......you may need to cut jammed threads, just ensure all are removed before you re-assemble.

SOURCE: knob not moving

Check the bobbin winding feature to see if it is disengaged.

If there is thread jammed in the bobbin area, the wheel will not move.

Turn off the machine and remove the needle and presser foot.

Remove the bobbin. Open the needle plate and remove the bobbin case and clean the area from lint and thread that may have accumulated there.

Stitch selector knob on bernina 600, not Deco, is stuck and cannot select needle position, However the width of stitch part of the knob is working. This knob has 2 parts, needle position and width control

Your machine (Bernina 600 Record) has most likely frozen (seized) due to lack of regular maintenance. Don't panic. It can be fixed with a lot of elbow grease, good quality oil and a hairdryer. The following method has resurrected several Berninas I've picked up as "nonworking."

Bernina 930 change needle position

Look at the knob which creates the zig-zag stitch (1-4) at the top right of your 930. In the center of that is a silver knob that rotates right and left. That silver switch moves the needle position right and left.

Singer 974 MY NEEDLE WOULDN'T MOVE WHEN I TURN THE HAND WHEEL AND MY HAND WHEEL WOOBLES. HOW CAN I FIX IT?

slacken the small stop screw and remove the centre free motion knob. the balance wheel should now be free to turn independent of the shaft. you will have exposed the friction washer. clean all surfaces and relocate the washer with the two locating lugs facing outwards into the two slots in the shaft and refit the knob and screw. if the screw bottoms on the friction washer remove knob and turn the friction through 180 degrees and try it again

LED that illuminates the stitch selection bar quit working as did the up/down needle button.

Check your bobbin spindle. If engaged (pushed toward the right) LED will not light. When the clutch knob is pulled out, when you wind a bobbin, the up & down needle will not move. So you must push the clutch knob in again to let the up & down needle go up and down. The clutch knob on my machine is in the large hand wheel upper right side of my machine.

Where is the indicator to move from one pattern to another on the New Home mx 3123 ? The red light is on behind pattern 1.... How do you move it? Thanks!

it is the big knob on the right hand side below the bigger wheel that moves the needle bar up and down. You have to turn it clockwise to move the indicator to the right all the way to # 13 for straight stitch. It will make a loud click with every move. Make sure the needle is raised up because it jumps back and forth as you move the dial. When you make a buttonhole using pattern 1, when one finishes you turn the dial to #2 then back to #1 to reset the program. I have one right in front of me if you have more questions. This is an AWESOME machine and should never wear out :o)

Needle Keeps Moving While Sewing and Bobbin Wont Thread

Hi Nikki,

The problem seems to be of the needles alignment. If you are using a half bobbin type (D type) needle, makes sure you have used the proper number & size and also fastened it well so that the flat side is firmly fixed/clasping the inner side of the needle hold. That black thing which I feel is the fly-nut that helps you tighten/clamp the needle to its hold. Then after having done that, slowly turn the wheel manually to see whether the needle is going in thru the hole in a straight line and if you can, look underneath to se if the knotter ring (the one that looks like having fangs) comes close as the neele advances inward. All these movements HAVE TO BE syncronised. Only then you will be able to stitch the fines of fabrics speedily. Also make sure oyu are not tugging on the front end of the fabric too hard as this may cause the needle to go in a diagonal manner thus causing it to snap. Take care as to NOT to be too close to the needle while at high speeds. The snapping pieces can fly right into your eyes/nose causing serious injury.

Hope that does it Nikki...
