Question about Whirlpool GEW9250 Electric Dryer

Whirlpool Duet GEW9250 Dryer; Only Running in Delicate Cycle

Paid for advice here by "experts"; told by several to replace the "control panel"; did so and the problem persists. All the other controls on the unit seem to work, except the dial in center that allows you to choose the cycle (as the dryer only functions in the "delicate" cycle, the temperature setting stays on extra low only). HELP!

In the mean time, I took the control panel off the front of the dryer and found that the cycle selection knob has a thin plastic pin on the backside of it that has apparently snapped in half (very poor design; thinner than a toothpick!). Now just have to see if I can replace just that switch or the entire panel.

We have the same problem, too, with our GEW 9250, dryer. We tried taking the control panel off of the dryer, but it would not come off for some reason. It was in the control locked position and now the time does not show up or anything and we finally got it off the locked position but it won't do anything although we see red lights on two cycles. I am very frustrated considering we only had this for less than 2 1/2 years and now we have to pay for the repairs on something that we could probably fix if we could get into it without breaking it even more. It worked just fine a few days ago so I am really upset about it. I definitely won't recommend this product to anyone considering we have had problems with the dryer overheating in the past when it was set on the sensor control.

Control locked light is on. Have replaced control board but control still locked

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.

This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.

NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Hopefully, this simple advice will save you an expensive service call.

Whirlpool Duet gew9250 - Control Lock

The most common reason for this type of complaint would be a failure in the user interface board (UI), if the portion of the board has a short circuit across the lock trails it will demonstrate this symptom.

The fix would be to have the UI replaced. Part number is
8558753 Platinum
8558755 Biscuit
8558756 Pewter

The cost for the part alone is around $160.00 plus labor to install.

I know this is not good news. sorry....
