Panasonic CF-48 Laptop has screen problems

I just added 512MB RAM to my laptop and a new Wireless card. It was working great and then I started to have horizontal flashing lines and the the display would flutter up and down. I started it in Safe Mode and it worked great. So I'm convinced it is not hardware. I tried to find a driver for this model and have had no success. Panasonic CF-48X4KNUQM Win 2/K Pro Pent 4 M 1.8Ghz 768MB RAM. Any help would be great. Thanks

I know what it is. I can unplug the ac power and the screen quits fluttering. Plug it back in and it begins again. The plug at the laptop is getting very warm. I believe the plug is loose and may need to be sodered.

It was the cable to the back of screen. I looked and saw it was no longer taped down and the connector had apparently slipped out just enough to cause flutters and random horizontal lines. Cleaned with cotton swab and alcohol, re taped . Works great now..!! Thanks.

I used to have a CF-50 so i know they are good laptops.

The actual screen may be going out or the built in graphics card might be getting flakey.

I would back up all your information somewhere and use the recovery CD to re-install windows on the system. Once you do that, before installing anything, see if it still does it.

If not, then it was a software issue probably form an update, ATI catalyst recked havock on two of my computers and several of my frineds, once we un-installed it, everything returned to normal.

Now if it is still doing this, it is most likely a hardware issue.

If its fine in safe mode, then it may be that your laptop is overheating and when that happens, apps freez, screens flicker and programs act funny.

Make sure you dont obstruct the airflow into the fan, keep it on a flat, hard surface. More surface area means quicker displacement of the heat from the laptop to whatever its sitting on, thus keeping things cool.

They also sell laptop coolers at office depo and wallmart i think,

Try letting the laptop cool down for an hour and then starting it normally and loging into windows as normal, Does it do it right away or after a godd ten minutes of running apps and surfing the web? If so , its probably a overheating issue.

Hardware is expensive so if the screen goes out, good luck gettng one cheap. If its still under warranty, take it in, dont delay, thats what the warranty is for.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and you said you got a new wireless card and Memory, try removing them physically and see how it runs for a day and if the problem goes away then you know where to start looking. Sometimes memory and other devices can cause issues, especailly if they have conflicting drivers. You could try reseating the hardware. Just something to try.

You may be able to find one on ebay that has a good screen, i always see alot of Panasonics up for sale, if you can get one at a decent price you will at least have replacement parts.

Upgraded ram 1gb wont boot hp 510 mobo 30C4

If you added another 512Mb RAM to increase the RAM to 1Gb then the new 512Mb memory stick could be incompatible with the original 512Mb or it could be faulty.
Use RAM that is same make and speed as the original RAM.
Remove both RAM and just insert the new 512Mb into your laptop and see if the laptop boots up, if not then the RAM could be faulty.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 Mk III P3 1Ghz 512Mb Ram , I have installed a brand new DVD rom Drive in the MP Bay it reconises in bios also reads upon first post however, will not boot from any os cd...

Some bios menu allows you to boot from USB. (Some are locked this option by makers.)

Run safety mode and try again to see whether your DVD rom is working.

Best way will be go to device manager; go to properties of DVD rom; go to driver and click roll back driver.

If this is not working (in case), uninstall driver and reinstall it.

Toughbook CF-18 won't start-up after adding RAM

There could be several problems with what you have done with your laptop. One of the problems which I have seen alot happen when changing ram in a laptop is you have gone over the limit of what the laptop can handle. Have you tried putting your old ram back in. If not try putting your old ram back in and see if the laptop boots up. If not then unplug your laptop and take the battery out and hold the power button down until the count of 10 mississippi which will drain the onboard power supply allowing you to reset the mother board. Did you ground yourself while working inside the laptop. If your body had any static charge to it while working inside the laptop you might have shocked the hardrive or one of the other vital parts inside. Also check your work to see that you didn't accidently knock a wire connection loose while working inside since laptops do not have alot of room to work this happens alot also.

Try hitting F8 right when Windows starts up. You will get a text menu with options. Try "last known good configuration" and see if that helps. If it doesn't you may be able to get it working by reinstalling XP and choosing "Repair",which will try and replace all your windows files with the original ones.

If that doesnt work then you will have to reload XP from scratch. If you have to do that then install service pack 2 before any other software or drivers.
