I have been usibg the unit for several months, Twice, the sound just stopped then a couple ofweeks later it came back on. Now it has lost the sound again and try as I may, I can't get it back. Where oh where dis it go?

  • JCTap May 20, 2008

My Maestro 3100 would have no audio anytime I turned the unit on.

I had to hit the reset button recessed on left side of the unit with a paper clip or the tip of a pin to get it to work.

now it just does not work at all.

I'm thinking that something is wrong with the plug for the earpiece.

Help ! how can I get this feature to work again.

This is actually the most important thing about it.

Received the Maestro 3100 as a gift and followed the instruction for software update (recommended) the only problem is the there is no sound now and can not get it back on. Have contacted the manufacturer with " yes it's a problem but we don't have a solution". If you know there is a problem and don't know how to fix it, why put the product on the market. Sure would stop me from ever considering your products again and will certainly spread the word to others to avoid this product.

Hello i just just finish fixing the external speaker problem the problem seems to be the earpiece hole the unit thinks that u have and ear peace plug in so here the solution:
1 get a hold of some headphones 2 turn the magellan on and into the main screen. 3 plug the headphones in the unit press right arrow and left arrow and listen for sound 4 un-plug half way wiggle insert and remove repeat, 5 un-plug and blow into earpiece hole 6 check for sound
i did it for about 1 min and it work for me i hope this helps some one enjoy!

Check the audio out port..A faulty port can result in the on board speaker cutting out or muting out. try connectting an external speaker jack into the audio out port and slightly wiggle it.

I do not recommend but open up the unit and check for dry solder at the speaker end

If all ok, it might be a faulty speaker coil. replace with similar impedence

Magellan maestro 3100 frozen on blue screen tried power on and off and reset button still frozen black bar at bottom of scren stays on blue screen

i just replied to a fellow with the same problem and since your problem is same, ill post what i wrote him/her but try a hard reset 1st..turn the gps on then locate the little pin hole on the side, using a paper clip, push reset....if that fails, try the 2.18 update if you havent already.

updates for any magellan can be found HERE
but read below first before getting the update

i cant stress enough that patients is a must here. this update is huge 1.75GB

follow the instructions below whether you have updated your gps already or not!

There are few ways to solve this problem. i assume you installed the 2.18 update for the 3100 and assuming you tried the reset already, try and run the update again and follow the directions to the letter..make sure the battery is fully charged (i also keep mine plugged in if the update doesnt say not to) and do not try and run the update across a network. this update is huge 1.75GB and can take an hour or so depending on the computer..do not interrupt the update process. if you do not have the 2.18 update read me file, i can try and post it here, but its in PDF and dont think i can post that

if all else fails, magellan will fix or replace for free any of there gps that were rendered inoperable due to one of there updates.

either solution will work but magellans going to tell you to run the update again anyway before sending it back.

i gave you the 2 easyest ways to fix it,but
there are other ways to get it running again, but if your not comfortable copying and moving files...youll make it even worst then it is.

hope this helps.

go to Tech support at www.magellamgps.com tell them what has transpired and ask for 2.18 Update Recovery Files. This fixed my problem. Took a few email exchanges but I thought the responses were very quick.

Magellan Maestro 3100 stuck on

If you followed the procedure closely, you now have an SD card with your backup on it. The backup consists of two folders: BACKUP, and USBTRANS. Insert the backup SD card in your PC's reader slot and open a "file explorer" aka "Windows Explorer", not to be confused with "Internet Explorer". You will use Windows Explorer to click and drag the USBRANS folder to the Maestro.

With the Maestro 3100 connected to the PC, a couple of Explorer folders will open and you can see the file structure for the GPS in 1, and in the other one a separate file structure for the blank SD card needed for the update. Look at the file structure for the GPS and you should see a handful of folders including "SYS".

  • Start the upgrade program, following the procedures.
  • Click the NEXT button at the bottom of the procedures screen.
  • Immediately copy the backed up USBTRANS folder (and all contents) to the SYS folder on the GPS.
  • The update should now find the Maestro 3100 and proceed with the update.

SUMMARY: copy USBTRANS (it should contain 1 file: UNIT.DAT)
  • from your BACKUP SD card (not the one in the Maestro)
  • to your Maestro 3100's SYS folder.

Magellan Maestro 3100 locks

You can try a hard reset. Hold in the reset button (left side of unit, use a pin or toothpick), while turning on the unit. If you don't get the blue Magellan screen, you'll have to try again. If you get a screen with a blue background and a menu, turn it off and try again.
So far, this has fixed:
1. unit won't go on
2. unit reboots when routing
3. unit turns off after a few seconds

At least, it's fixed it for me. No idea why this happens, but it's pretty damn annoying. Give it a try.
