When we start our dryer it makes a loud noise as if it struggles to get the drum moving. Once the dryer is moving it has no trouble moving, but every time we start it, the noise happens again even if i was stopped just for one minute. This started happening after we moved. Any ideas on what could be wrong and if i can fix this my self?

Is this noise like a loud buzz or hum? If it is it may be the motor draging
and can't quite get going. bearing getting worn.
Also check drum rollers or glides and the idler pully one of them may
be dragging if they are you might put a little high temp oil on it.
Hope this helps..

Is it a high pitch squeal? if it is you can get some fan belt spray(the stuff you spray on noisy fan belts in cars) and spray some of that on the drive belt in the dryer

You dryer belt may be shot and a piece of rubber is missing making it jump while working. Needs replacing before it completely quits. It will eventually just break apart.

My Kenmore dryer model #110.9757 is making a loud noise

DRYER MAKES NOISES.

A loose or worn BELT can make funny noises

Or the idler pulley that puts tension on the dryer drum drive belt could be worn out. If the pulley is bad we recommend also replacing the belt.

The glides on drum worn and making metal to metal contact.

The drum slides or glides support the front of the drum. As the drum rotates over the years, the glides wear out and then the dryer makes noise. Replace all of the glides as a set if they are worn out.

CHECK FOR LOOSE BELLOES inside the drum

Sometimes an item can get stuck inbetween the drum and the housing and scrape and grind making funny noises, things like coins, bra wire, nails, hair pins, etc sometimes u can just remove the cabinet and observe by turning the drum by hand or looking for scratch or scrape marks on housing.

The blower:

Clumps of lint, socks, and other small articles of clothing can get past the lint filter and into the blower wheel. If the dryer makes noise, and the noise seems to be at a very fast pace, there might be something caught in the blower wheel. In addition, the blower wheel sleeve might be worn out, allowing the blower wheel to wobble on the motor shaft. If this happens, replace the blower wheel.

The bearings:

The drum bearing supports the rear of the dryer drum. If the dryer makes noise this bearing might be worn out. Replace the bearing if it is worn out. Do not lubricate the bearing, the lubrication will attract lint and dirt and accelerate the wearing process.

The bearings TEST by moving drum by hand u may be able to feel loose or rough movement. And listen to sounds when turning it.

The drum rollers or castors:

It is very common for dryer drum rollers to wear out. If the dryer makes noise, particularly a loud rumbling noise, one or more of the rollers may be worn out. After removing the drum from the dryer, inspect the rollers.

Check for cracks, dryness, or damage and not engaging drum properly. Sometimes u can use high density LITHIUM BASE gear grease to re oil/grease them.

Beko DRVS 62 W Tumble Dryer Squeakig

I had a problem similar to this on my Frigidaire dryer. I found that there is a felt ring that goes around the drum inside. This acts like a washer to prevent the drum from rubbing on the housing. On mine, the felt somehow got pushed in some and the drum was squeeking as it rotated. I had to order a whole new drum and replace it since on my model it was part of the drum.

An extra loud noise starts when drying

In all likelihood the belt that turns the drum is frayed. and may need replacing. It would be a good idea to unplug it and take a good look at the belt before it comes completely off, this way there won't be any confusion about how the new one goes on.The only moving parts when it is in operation is, the drum, belt and a very small wheel on which the belt travels.

I get a loud scraping noise when I first start up the dryer

It sounds like the drum is off balance, the drum could be scrapping along the side of the dryer. Check for a loose bolt on the drum assembly. Once it starts running the drum levels out and the scrapping noise goes away

Dryer making loud noise ...

Hi,
The problem is with the guide wheels that hold the drum. If they allow the drum to move too much then the belt is loosened and then the drum will not turn.

You can find parts for your unit by doing a search for “appliance parts”.
Once you get the results of the search, pick a site and when it comes up it will usually ask for the model number of your unit.
Enter your model number and you will then get a page with exploded views and a parts menu.
Find the part you need and then order it.
Check a few different sites to be sure that you are getting the best pricing.
Most sites can have the part to you in a couple of days.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Kenmore Dryer 110 is making a loud squeaking noise.

Only a few things will make that noise. The squeaking is caused by a moving part having trouble turning while rubbing against a fixed part.
  1. The idler pulley is worn
  2. The drum support rollers are hard turning on their shafts
  3. The felt seals at the front or back of the drum is worn allowing metal to metal contact while turning
  4. An article has fallen into the housing around the blower wheel and the wheel is rubbing on it.
Listen for the frequency of the sound. The drum rollers and drum felts will squeak at the frequency of the tub turning. The idler pulley turns much faster as does the blower wheel. Knowing this will help pin down the cause.

Dryer is making loud thumping noise.

Take off the back panel of the dryer and look at the motor and belt turning the drum. There may be something caught on the drum and is pinned in place causing the noise. The motor could be loose on the platform and needs to be tightened. It is probably something physical and seen causing the noise.
