Magellan roadmate 700 Does not track

System does not track right away. It takes some time to start. Tried resetting it. But still no good. Called magellan and did what they said and it still the same. Everything else works but the tracking. Some times it takes hours to work.

So far so go it seems to be working now. The question is for how long. Called Magellan and their Tech told me to trade it in because it was un-fixable. Thanks for your help and quick response.........

If the unit is not trackinf follow the steps given bellow..
NOTE: If you are trying these steps from your vehicle, it is
Recommended to follow when the vehicle is in a stationary position.
Make sure that the device is exposed to the clear view of sky.

With the antenna pointing upwards, remove the antenna and then re-insert.
Swivel it up and down to make sure its securely placed.

wait for few mins and check the signal indicator.
Still not working,

  • Turn on the unit and select any user.
  • Make sure that the antenna is in the upright position and the unit has
a direct line of sight with the sky.
  • Select 'Option' from the keypad.
  • Then select 'Configuration'.
  • Scroll down to select 'Diagnostics'.
  • Scroll down again to select 'Initialize GPS'.
  • At this point you would receive two options, 'Yes or No' - select 'YES'.
  • Now scroll down and select 'Set GPS Position'.
  • Enter your City, Street name and number at the corresponding
    prompts.

NOTE: The address that you are entering in the Set GPS Position should be the address at which you are at that point of time.

System works erratically

This can happen, as you probably know, when driving in areas of tall buildings - I have an extension aerial that sits on rthe car roof.

BUT BUT BUT.. these Magellan units are so poor compared to Tomtom and Magellan Support is RUBBISH!!!!!

I am at last binning my Roadmate 700 and am getting a Tomtom Go series which auto updates every time it's put on its cradle attached to my PC/internet.

Magellan 700 GPS wont find sattlites

I just got off the phone with India (Tech Service). I sent my Roadmate 700 for service in October. When it did not come back, I called 4x and had to prove I sent it in with a copy of the tracking number from UPS. It has taken 2 mos to resolve, but they are sending me a Maestro 4250, free shipping for $300.00. Their first offer was for a free 3100. I was told the Roadmate 700 series is discontinued.

Magellan RoadMate not Working

Common problem Herbert, Unfortunately, it's a common problem that can be fixed by having several dead units lying around to take parts from. So, if you can find a unit to salvage from, then do that and change out the LCD. if you can't.. then I'm sorry Herbert but there's not much else you can do. Try reloading the software if you have the DVD. open up the unit and make sure all the cables and everything are tight/secure. Good luck.

My Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS Receiver won't locate my position.

If out of warranty time frame, open her up and check the grey cables that you will notice right after you crack the case. Make sure the cable is un damaged and connects to the main board (the big one) to the I/O board (attached to rear housing). If no change, then try resetting GPS user data. At User Menu (after reboot), press "-" key and repeat key at the same time. select reset GPS user data and cross your fingers. -Daniel
