Hi alot of sony customers are having this same problem as you it is covered by the warranty so dont do anything with it just contact the place you brought it form they should replace it for you if the say they wont contact customer support in your manual and then they will tell you the best way to get it sorted out its not worth trying to repair yourself because it should still be under warranty even if no warranty sony will replace it because its such a common fault.
The problem relates to the laser failing usuall the laser motor fails not spinning the disk but alot of the ps3 have been either having your problem or over heating this is the other most common fault.
Just remember when they replace your ps3 that dont use it on carpet it needs to be on solid flat surface and also dont have it on top of dvd player or any other device as this will cause the unit to over heat and fail.
Im sorry i couldnt give you good news but it really isnt worth messing with unless you have no other options left as if you was to repair it yourself you will need to buy new laser unit and these for the ps3 are not cheap and you will also need osciloscope that is if you are going to do the repair yourself they cost about £1000 so the cheapest way is to pay a repair shop to calibrate the laser as they will have the scope to calibrate the laser with as you cant do it without let me know if you need further assistance ok

Xbox help for "Can read CD but NOT DVD."

Step 1: Inspect and clean your disc Take a close look at the bottom side of your game, movie, or music disc (the side without a label or image). Are there scratches? Excessive scratches or smudges can prevent your console from reading the disc. Clean your disc 1. Hold the disc by the edges without touching the top or bottom surfaces. 2. Using a soft, clean, slightly damp cloth, lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward. Note Do not use solvents to clean the disc. 3. Once the disc is clean, load the disc into your console and see if the disc plays. If the disc still does not play, try step 2. Step 2: Try other discs Try other discs to determine whether the problem happens with any disc or only with this particular disc. If multiple game discs, DVDs, or CDs will not play: 1. Make sure the media type and the disc region code are compatible with the console. 2. If the problem happens with several discs of different types (games, DVDs, and CDs), skip to “Step 7: Request a repair” below. If a specific game disc will not play: 1. Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base to determine if the game title has any known problems. 2. Make sure the media type and the disc region code are compatible with the console. If the disc you are using has a region code that is compatible with your console but you still cannot play the disc, try step 3. Step 3: Clear your system cache If your Xbox 360 console can’t play multiple game discs, try clearing your system cache. Here’s how: 1. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings. 2. Select Memory. 3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller. 4. Select Clear System Cache.
Note If Clear System Cache is not available, use the button sequence described in the following article: 971755 How to clear the Xbox 360 console cache 5. Try to play a game disc. If you still can’t play a game disc, try step 4. Step 4: Remove the hard drive If the problem only happens with game discs, let’s try temporarily removing your hard drive. If your Xbox 360 console does not have a hard drive, skip to step 5. 1. Turn off your console. 2. Locate the hard drive on your console. 3. Press the release button on the hard drive and lift the hard drive from the console. 4. Turn on your console. 5. Try to play a game disc.If this step resolves the problem, reattach the hard drive and contact Xbox support to order a replacement hard drive. If this step resolves the problem, reattach the hard drive and contact Xbox support to order a replacement hard drive. If you still can’t play game discs, try step 5. Step 5: Disconnect memory units 1. Turn off your console. 2. Unplug any memory units attached to your console. 3. Turn on your console. 4. Try playing a game. Wii could not read disc

There could be several things wrong. Let's start with the most basic - is the disc inserted correctly? The holographic side needs to be on the left when inserting it. Then, make sure there are no scratches or smudges on the bottom of the disc. A common solution is to wipe it with a cloth or even your shirt if you don't have one handy. Look on the holographic side of the disc to make sure there isn't anything left on it. After cleaning thoroughly, try playing the disc again.
If you're still having a problem, try restarting the Wii console. However, there's always a possibility that you have a bad disc or, if you're unable to play any games, a bad console.

Guys after i finished installing the game, it refuses to launch and a message is displayed that i insert the disc but after doing so nothing happens, please help??? coz i eagerly want to play it.

There might be no autostart. Click on the start menu, then my computer and double click on your disc drive. from there there should be an icon probably by the same name as the game that should allow you to start if nothing pops up after clicking on the drive.

I purchased chessmaster 10th edition and installed to computer when i hit the play button for startup it asks to insert disc 1 i would like to know why this is required when the program is installed ...

i am sorry to give u bad news, game CM is game that need disc to run the game because a lot of stuff that still need to run the program left behind in the disc. it was factory setting.

But u can use alternative way by make the disc to image then run it with daemon tool.
first u need program that can make image file like .iso, .nrg, etc. ( i use nero)
make an image file from CD 1 and CD 2 and save it in computer.
second install program that can make image drive to run image disc (i use daemon tool).
make one image drive then mount the image disc to the drive.
now u can play without real disc. (after finished play the game unmount the image disc)

hope this helpful

you have a disc read error on your ps3. you can either send it to sony and pay 150 if not under warrenty, or you can get a whole new disc drive for about 50-60 bucks on ebay. you can find a video on youtube on how to install it yourself. its pretty simple.

LAPTOP DVD DRIVE WONT PLAY DVDS ANYMORE

Drive is on its way. Typical behaviour. Try air dusting lens but unlikely to fix it. Very easy diy repair and cheap. EBay the new disc drive or refurbished. Then go to youtube. Nearly all laptop drives are the same to replace no matTerry brand. You could even get a faster drive.
