Question about Barebone Systems

1 Answer

Initially I installed HP Photosmart C4280 without any problem om my PC (Vista). Then I had to format the PC, and it took some research in order to get the printer up and running again. However, when I try to scan or copy, I get a message to tell me "USB not connected" (even though it is.) Can anybody help, please? Yetta

    Hello Jay25mcr,

As far as I know, yes it has. Would I be able to use the printer (part) otherwise?

Goto start, right click on my computer,go to properties, click on the tab that says hardware. once your in there you should not see any red or yellow warning signs. look for your device and if you see there is an error by it you can do a few thing. if you right click the device you can update the driver first. then reboot. if that doesnt go through the same process but uninstall the driver then reboot. Make sure that hp doesnt have an update for that printer on there website. hope it works for you.

Set msi 171f to factory defaults

Normally, you would press F10 or F11 at Startup to commence the Recovery Process..

Another way I have seen on some models is to tap F8, and go to a list of Startup options, and start a Factory Standards Recovery from in there, by selecting the Repair computer option.

Also ask them if it is possible to make Recovery Disk/s from the Recovery Partition in case of Hard Drive failure or System Crash.

They will tell you how to do that.

Each Computer Manufacturer has their own way of making Recovery Disk/s.

Or borrow a proper Microsoft Vista DVD(not Dell, HP, etc).
A proper Vista DVD contains all Vista versions.
The Product Key determines which Vista version gets installed.

There are 2 Vista disks: one for 32bit Operating System, and one for 64bit Operating System.

If a clean install is required with a proper Vista DVD (not HP, Dell Recovery Disks):

Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive.

At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, to go into Bios/Setup, or F12 for the Boot Menu

Did you format the drive or just repair it"??

Access BIOS and have a look in case that key stroke is disabled in there.

Sounds like the CD has overwritten that part of the HP registry....they have their own.

The drivers on the HP CD are probably not compatible with Vista.

I would suggest visiting the Hewlett-Packard website, navigating to their Support section, and downloading the new drivers for Vista.

Hey there cathie719, have you installed the drivers for your machine? If you have not, here is the location to find them;
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3192753&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&y=8&x=5
Copy and paste to your bowser. Choose your operating sytem, from the list and everything you need should be presented to you. Good Luck!
