Did the set just turn off and stay off? Has the set been turning itself off and then back on before this issue. If you push the power button, does set set cycle on and of 3 times?
If it just went off and stayed off, the first thing I would check is the main fuse near where the power cord goes into the set. You'll have to take off the back and then unscrew and unclip the plastic cover in the back where the various inputs and out puts are. Looking down after removing the plastic cover you'll see a glass fuse that snaps onto the board. Check and replace that fuse if it's bad.
If the other symtoms I mentioned happen then it's most likely the HV splitter up in the front part of the set.
Convergence procedure for Proscan chassis CTC188 is: 1) press and hold menu- press power- press vol.+.(P00 and V00 will be displayed 2) release menu- press vol+ and adjust until V80 appears. 3) press ch.+ and navigate using directional buttons on remote and tv button to save/exit. Hope this helps. If not e-mail me.
Usually this problem is caused by part failure on circuit board. Most often in power supply or deflection circuit. You will need test equip. and soldering/desoldering tools to fix this set. Most repair services charge 275.00-475.00 to do this repair on a PS60690. Crate is removable by removing rear cover, disconnecting spk. plugs and keyboard plug. Loosen two screws and whole thing slides out. This can save you service call fee.
Actually, the set has the PTK188AC chassis. This is a very uncommon chassis. The most common reason for the set not starting in that chassis is a shorted high voltage splitter. That is the large black box inside the set that has 5 thick red wires in it. When the set is turned on, the computer senses the short in the high voltage circuits and immediately shuts the set back off. When the set is on, that box has dangerously high voltage in it so it should only be replaced by a qualified tech familiar with the high voltage splitters in RCA projection sets.
