Yes, I had worked through all you suggested with my provider. Subsequently Apple told me that MSN is not compatible with Leopard. I'm now attempting to active a third party application that creates a work-around alias (MacFreePops from FreePops.org). Still not there yet. Thanks. Les

Are you on dial-up, broadband or ? Who is your internet provider? It could be as simple as asking your provider what ports they use for email. Most use port 25 to send and 110 to recieve, but some use different settings for security reasons. It could be the way you enter your account information into the email program. To help you, we need much more information.

Your best bet is probably calling your internet provider and asking tech support for the settings for whichever mail program you are using, or even email their tech support. Some providers even have live chat...(for free)

the first char should be a 0 not an O

The cause could be either certificate revocation or improperly configured email account setting.

if it was working and just stopped, then likely the first; if never worked, then the second.

For the first
In Internet Explorer,
Click on Tools
Click the 'Connections' tab, and then click LAN Settings
Check the 'automatically detect settings' check-box
Click 'Advanced' tab --Scroll down to 'Security' and
un-check "Check for server certificate revocation"
Click the OK button
Close all IE windows, and start a new session.

For the second....it depends on your mail provider what the 'settings' should be. Their website should have detailed instructions on it, if not, who is your mail provider ?

Are you using Outlook Express or another email program (like Microsoft's Live Mail)? What ISP are you connecting to (Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail), gmail.com)?

This is a symptom of a security mismatch. The exact solution will depend on the answers to the questions above. Most likely, you either need to change the port from the default one. You also may need to change the encryption/authentication protocol. These settings may be under different sections of the email program setup menus. (They will be in the Advanced settings of the Server Settings/SMTP settings section of the program. Check under Tools)

For example, Live.com uses port 995, instead of 110 for the pop3 server. The outgoing SMTP server needs to be accessed at port 587, instead of 25. You need to include your full email address in your user settings for both the incoming and outgoing mail. See http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/hotmail-and-msn-accounts-pop3smtp-access/ for some details of the Hotmail/Outlook/Live Mail configurations.

Please add some comments with your specific situation for a better solution. I hope this helps.

Unable to send or receive messages for the Copy Systems - Destin account. A TCP/IP error occurred while trying to send data to the server. Server: 'pop.embarqmail.com' Windows Live Mail Error

The SMTP configuration may be off. Double check with each account that fails. Example - mail.domain_name.com.

There may be a port blockage as well, but less likely. SMTP is 587

Can't send email in outlook. please advise.

Can't send email in outlook
Outlook is an email client, much like outlook express or Windows Live mail.
TO work correctly the email client has the information already set up in to be able to contact the mail server (the computer with your email messages), and also authenticate you as a user (an email address and password).
In some cases you also need to configure the email servers (basically provide the server information directly to the system)
The newer version of Outlook can try to detect these settings, with decent success.

In order to make it work, open Outlook and click set up new email account.
Provide your name, email address, and password, servers, etc.

Since you didn't provide the name of the email provider (yahoo, msn, gmail, etc.) I will assume you know the specifics for it.
Also note that some free email accounts do not work well with Outlook. I know MSN and free yahoo mail accounts don't work very well.

You probaly have the SSL box checked in your SMTP settings.

Open Outlook Express.
Click on Tools in the menu, and click on Accounts in the drop-down menu.
Click on Mail.

Box on the left of This server requires secure connection (SSL) should be clear. If not, click on it to clear the check.

Dont know how to email.

If you have internet access then you can setup a yahoo, google, or hotmail. Just go to yahoo, google, or msn and set up an email account. From then on it's pretty straight forward all you have to do is read the screens and you'll know how to send, receive, reply, etc. For yahoo go to www.yahoo.com and click on sign up, for google go to www.google.com and click gmail, and for hotmail go to www.msn.com and sign up. good luck. any questions let me know.

Are you using Windows mail or Outlook? You need to set the sockets and outgoing server settings.
Try going to Outlook Express tools, Accounts, then click on "ISP Account".
Click "Properties", then the servers tab and check that the detail in the SMTP entry is correct for your ISP. It may be advisable to delete it and re-enter it to be sure.
Go here and do further reading.
If you use Windows Live, use one of these settings. You can check it from here, and also download the setup again. If it gives more trouble, go to Add/Remove Programs and from there you can select Repair or Change->Repair.
Check the router settings to check whether it blocked (or check the settings if you have a firewall).
For further help, please Right Click on My Computer and go to Manage and go to Event Viewer and go to the Application category and copy and send us the exact error message please.

If this answer helps you, please kindly rate the answer.
Wish You Luck.
