Remote doesn't control on/off,volume or channels

Remote won't workThe most common reasons the remote won't work is that the batteries are dead or it hasn't been programmed properly. It's often easy to fix. Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
Make sure you have a clear path between the remote and the infrared eye on your equipment. Clear any dust or debris that may be covering the eye.

Try unlocking the battery-saving mode. When a button is pressed for longer than three minutes, the remote goes into battery-saving mode. Press the SAT mode button at the top to unlock it. Your remote should work properly.

Check the batteries. When you press a mode button, does it light up? If not, you may be out of juice. Check to make sure they are in the right way, with the metal ends making good connections with the metal in the remote. If they're in correctly and you still don't get power, try replacing them. They may be dead.Learn about batteries

Check to make sure the remote is programmed properly, which basically means you reprogram it to work with your receiver, TV and any other components. Start with the receiver and work your way through programming each component that isn't working. We tell you how to program remotes in our guide to remotes.Learn about remotes

Still no go? You may have an internal problem with the remote. You'll have to talk to a Shaw Direct customer service representative. Call 1.888.554.7827.Be prepared to tell us:What components you have. All of the steps you've been through to try and solve the problem yourself. Can't change channels on receiverThis is almost always caused by a programming problem with the remote. Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
Make sure you are in SAT mode. The receiver will only change channels when the remote is in the correct mode.Look for a timer. If you have a timer set, the receiver won't let you change channels. This ensures you don't miss recording a program with an external device. If a timer is set and you want to watch another channel, simply turn off the receiver and turn it back on.Learn about timers

Make sure the problem is with the remote and not the receiver. Try the buttons on the front of the receiver. Try to change channels. If your model doesn't have channel buttons, try to turn the machine off. If you can't change channels or power off, the problem is with the receiver. Try unplugging it for two minutes and plugging it in again.

If you can change the channels or power off, the problem is with the remote. Press any mode button on the remote. It should light up. If not, you probably have low batteries. They should be replaced.

Try unlocking the battery-saving mode. When a button is pressed for longer than three minutes, the remote goes into battery-saving mode. Click on any of the mode buttons at the top to unlock it. Your remote should work properly.

Try re-programming the remote to talk to your receiver.Find the manual for your remote control

Check to see if your Shaw Direct Receiver is using the same remote control address as your remote control. If you are using the DSR 319, HDDSR 505, or HDPVR 530 receiver press the Options button on the front panel of your Shaw Direct receiver. An options menu should appear on your screen. Using the direction keys on the front of your receiver navigate to 6 - System Setup and then press the Enter button on the front panel of the receiver. Using the same directional and Enter buttons go to 4 - System Setup. Then 3 - Installation Settings. Followed by 2 - Remote control Address. If you are using a legacy receiver such as the DSR 315, DSR 405, or any other receiver with front panel buttons, press the Options button on the front panel of your Shaw Direct receiver. An options menu should appear on your screen. Using the direction keys on the front of your receiver navigate OPTIONS and then press the Enter button on the front panel of the receiver. Using the same directional and Enter buttons go to 6 - Change System Settings. Then 3 - Change Installation Settings. Followed by 2 - Set Remote Control Address.Follow the on-screen instruction to reset the remote control address on your receiver and remote control.Check the back of your remote, if you own the IRC/URC 550 or RT-U50 remote controls you will need to enter the remote control address differently from what is displayed on screen. To program these remotes, hold the ENTER and MUTE button on your remote at the same time until the mode buttons at the top start to illuminate then enter the last three digits of the number displayed in "Current Address" column on the screen, then press the MUTE button to lock in the code. For example: If the remote address on the screen displays 0002, you would hold ENTER + MUTE until the mode button illuminated and then enter 0 0 2, followed by ENTER on your remote control. If you own the IRC 551 or URC 551 remote control you can follow the instruction depicted on the screen, but you must substitute the follows numbers in place those specified: 00869 for 0000, 01870 for 0001, 01871 for 0002, 01872 for 0003, 01873 for 0004, 01874 for 0005, 01875 for 0006, 01876 for 0008. For example: If the remote address on the screen displays 0003, you would hold the SAT button until it flashes, press 01872, then ENTER, to lock in the new code.Still no go? For dish when i use the control for one TV my other TV also changes to the same channel...how do i fix that?

It sounds like you are either in single mode on the receiver or Shared View. Look on the front of the receiver, you should have an amber and green light lite. The amber light should be lit under with 2 boxes. It is probably lit under the single box. Locate the Mode button on the front of the receiver (probably to the right front. Press the Mode button until you see the amber under the 2 boxes or the blue light comes on. When all 3 lights are lit, the receiver is in dual mode.

If you have any other problems, please let us know. Thanks.

Can you tell me if you can reprogram the uhf remote to operate tv1 that is ir remote

Hey there, Cheri Torres with DISH Network Customer Service here. Normally our UHF remotes will be able to convert to an IR remote if you are experiencing an issue with your TV1 remote. In order to convert your UHF remote to a IR remote you would need to take off the battery cover pull out the blue TV2 tab and turn it over to the green TV1 tab. Once you have switched the tab you will need to readdress the remote to your receiver. I will list here for you the instructions for readdressing your remote to your receiver at the end of this post. If you are looking to make your TV1 remote a UHF signal that would depend on the model of receiver you have. Please email me directly at Cheri.Torres@Dishnetwork.com with the model of your receiver and I would be happy to give you instructions on how to convert your TV1 remote to a UHF signal. I hope you find this information useful and if you have any further questions or concerns fell free to email me and I would be happy to help! :)

Instructions for addressing remote to receiver.
  1. Go to System Info screen. You can do this by pressing the System info button on the front on the receiver box or by pressing the power button once then the channel up button once on the front of the receiver box. You may need to open a little door on the front right side of the receiver in order to locate the buttons.
  2. Once you are in the system info screen you will see Primary remote address (TV1) and Secondary remote address (TV2).
  3. Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
  4. Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.Change the number to something different then what is already listed in the little white square.
  5. Press the pound (#) button.
  6. Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record. Note: If successful, the number selected in step 4 will appear in the System Info screen under Remote Address.

My remote for maine box will not work # 2 is ok and works fine

Hi, my name is Cheri Torres with DISH Network customerservice. I came across your post and wanted to see if I could help. If yourDISH Network TV1 remote is no longer functioning properly the first thing youare going to want to check is the batteries. Make sure you have fresh batteriesin your remote; you can also take them out and reinsert them to make sure theyare in the remote properly. If you have already made sure the batteries arefresh the next thing to check is that all the mode lights (i.e. SAT, AUX, TVetc.) are lighting up red or green when you press buttons. Sometimes on DISHNetwork remotes none of the lights will light up at the top of your remote ifthis is the case with your remote you are going to need a replacement. In orderto get a replacement remote you can either call DISH Network at 1-800-333-3474or you can email me your account information such as account number and name onaccount and I can get a replacement sent out for you. In the case that yourremote mode lights are lighting up fine you will need to readdress your remoteto your DISH Network receiver box. I will list the steps here for you onreaddressing your remote. If you have any further questions or concerns feelfree to post back here or email me at Cheri.Torres@DISHNetwork.com. :)
Readdressing remote to receiver box

  1. Go to System Info screen. You can do this by either pressing the system info button on the front of your receiver box or by pressing the power button then the channel up button on the front of the DISH Network receiver box. You may need to open a little door on the front right side of the receiver box to locate the buttons. If both options fail, you can open the little door on the front left side of the box and pull out the smart card. You do not need to reinsert the smart card until you have finished all steps.
  2. Once you are in the system info screen you will see primary remote address (TV1) and secondary remote address (TV2). For your particular case you would need to locate primary remote address number which should be in a little white square.
  3. Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
  4. Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.Change the number to something other then what is already listed.
  5. Press the pound (#) button
  6. Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record three times. Note: If successful the number selected in step 3 will appear in the System Info screen under Remote Address.

My wife want's to move the furnace to an inside wall. It is presently mounted to an outside wall venting directly outside. where she wants to move it is directly under an old flu for an old heater. can the...

it can go up but is designed to go up wall cavity and unit i supposed to sit with it's back against wall to adapt to a flu that is already there would mean you would have to sit out into room a little bit which could look funny, the only way i can think to do this and look good would be to make a false wall for flu so upou don't see it and it wouldn't have to be built to far into room only far enough to hide flu i would stringly recomend someone to come have a look at it for you as it is acchievable but to make it look half descent if not immaculate job would be to get a specialist on fluing to look for you and advise on options to get it to go to old flu outlet may be something you can do but i don't think it would be a good idea as you would have to either bring heater far enough forward to go straight up it as wood heater flu would have been a fair distance of wall for clearance's, or the other way would be to bring flu behind heater then elbow out to get over to old flu exit, so get someone to look at it for you as you want to also put into a place where it will heat efficiently too!

Can not change channel with my new remote on my bell receiver

There could be a few different things causing the problem, but beginning troubleshooting would consist of the basic questions such as, are there fresh batteries in the remote and is the remote in the correct "Mode?" In order to change the satellite channels- remote needs to be in "SAT," mode, you can verify what mode the remote is in by attempting to change channels, or by simply pressing any button on the remote such as channel up or down - if the remote is in fact in sat mode the "SAT" button in the upper left hand corner of the remote will light up- this will allow you to confirm the remote is in the correct mode to allow you to successfully change channels. Also another potential issue is when you started experiencing these remote problems- has anything changed? Did you perhaps move the receiver to a different/new location? The sensor on the top of the remote and the front panel of the receiver need to have a clear path of signal in order to work, sometimes (usually rare) if the receiver is enclosed within a cabinet with glass doors this can cause an issue as well. Hope one of these tips helps; feel free to contact me directly if you need any further assistance.

The up button on my dish remote is not working. I have to push real hard to get it to move upwards on the channels.

Assuming you have fresh batteries and nothing is blocking the remote from communicating with the IR eyes on the receiver than you need a new remote most likely.

Thanks for using Fix Ya.com.

Channel keeps changing

If you are using the remote to change channels it sounds like either the front of the remote and/or the receiving “eye” on the TV need to be cleaned, OR (more likely) the button on the remote is sticking. It is actually a button that pushes on a membrane under the entire remote panel. This is generally caused by some sticky liquid (like Coke) getting spilled on it. If you are brave enough, you can take the remote apart and clean it with denatured alcohol. Otherwise you need to replace your remote. If possible borrow a universal remote and see if it still happens. If that doesn’t fix it you have a bad IR receiver and/or a serious internal problem.
