The picture tubes in Zenith sets (I assume it's a Zenith since you posted this with a Zenith heading, although it's also true for any set this old) were only expected to last around 7 years. Your description makes it sound like you are missing green, or that the green is just way low. This is a common sign of a bad picture tube. There are other possible causes, but tube failure is the most likely. The low replacement cost for small TV sets makes repairing this one uneconomical.

Get rid of the set and treat yourself to a new one.

What is wrong? The HDD and video pictures are pink/purple. The video reception is fine. Is there a not too expensive solution for our two year old machine?

Do you have a DVD player or game player connected to your TV? If so, do you get the same colors for the picture? If you do, then there may be a problem with your TV. If you don't get the same colors for your picture when you play a DVD or a game, then try to replace the cable between the receiver and your TV. I hope this helps.

Dvd color mostly blue and pink, colors look weird

try connecting thru an hdmi cable from your dvd player to your tv, check the colors then.. I'd say you have crossed your component cables.. match the connector letters a/b/x? and plug them in one after each other.

Everything that is supposed to be black is showing

Hi,It sounds like a problem with the color wheel or DMD board. The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will hear ,humming, buzzing, high pitch noises ,you might also experiment color distortion ,black and white picture. This is how the DMD works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

42" Polaroid LCD loses most colors

Try replacing your lcd controller. It's the board that actually makes the screen display the picture. Usually you will see the colors getting a little screwy and then the longer you have the tv on the hotter it gets and the worse it gets. I had one that started to look silvery then got worse as it got warmer. For lack of better ways to describe it, it was like you were watching tv on a crazy acid trip. Once you change the controller it should be ok. If that doesn't work 99% chance it's a bad lcd panel. I've seen about 6 of those all with similar issues as you have, they were all brand new tv's and all Sharp Aquos.

Sudden discoloration, ghosting, bowed horizontal lines in top and bottom of picture

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
