Question about Flat Panel Televisions

1 Answer

Wharfedale tv I've just bought a 37" Lcd model L37TA6A and the screen size keeps defaulting to 4.3 giving me a small sqaure picture. I can zoom in and get a full picture but it doesn't stay that size for long and changes back when i change sky channels. Is it faulty? thanks

Thanks but already done this. Sky have sent a boost to my box but same problem.I bought a Technika from Tesco but this was faulty as it kept switching itself off. They sent me a replacement and this was exactly the same so hence why I bought the Wharfedale. With the Technika though I didn't have the resizing problem.Getting a refund on the Wharfdale as I have to resize every channel even when I've just paused the live TV.Seriously starting to lose the will to live - if there's a faulty item on the shelf it seems to have my name on it !

I need an online manual for my Wharfedale 37" tv model number is L37TA6A

Hi Martyn. You can find your manual here:
http://www.manualowl.com/p/Haier/L37TA6A/Manual/102907
That TV should have both VGA and HDMI slots for you to connect your PC/Laptop to it. Just hook it up then press the window key+P and select your view mode.

Picture size

I found the user manual online, and the pictures in it are really helpful and make this make a lot more sense, but:
1. Press [SCREEN MODE], to switch the TV aspect ratio.
2. Press [SCREEN MODE] repeatedly until the normal screen displays.
NOTE: • Some programs may not offer all display mode options.
4:3 Programming
[Sidebar] Sidebar displays a 4:3 picture at its standard 4:3 size. Sidebars will be displayed on the right and left edges of the screen.
[Full] Full displays a 4:3 picture at a 16:9 size, with horizontal elongation necessary to fill the screen.
[Cinema] Cinema displays a 4:3 picture at a 16:9 size, with less horizontal elongation necessary to fill the screen because a little bit of the top and bottom edge of the screen will be cut off.
[Wide] Wide displays the center of the picture as original size and the outer sides of the picture will be elongated. The size of the picture will depend on the original signal.
16:9 Programming
[Full] A picture is displayed at 16:9 size as it is.
[Zoom] Zoom displays a 16:9 picture without changing its horizontal and vertical ratio, at its maximum size.
[Cinema] Cinema displays a 16:9 picture with vertical elongation.
[Expand] Expand displays a 16:9 picture with horizontal elongation

Just recently my sharp aquos lc 40 e is stuck in stretch of wide screen and the heads or top of things are being cut off. When i go to view mode it only gives me 4 options wide, stretch dot to dot or zoom...

Not all TV programs are broadcast in 1080. When you use zoom or stretch on a program in 720 or 480 and a 1080 program is viewed you have to go back and take off zoom and stretch to get a correct picture.

The tv is only showing the picture in a small box on the screen. The re.st of the tv is blue. How do I fix this?

you will have a button on your remote control that allows you to select what picture size you would like in your case it sounds like you have it set to 4:3 and it should be set to 16:4 if this fails check your menu options as one of your factory default settings may have been changed by mistake

Picture in high def does not fill screen

That is normal. Most HDTV's have a format or picture size option on the remote or menu. It will give you options like full, stretch ot zoom to fill in the blank spots. The problem is those settings can also distort the picture size so people look funny.
