You might be confuse with the N91 Memory.
N91 have 2 memory: one is the Phone Memory (only 35MB), and another one is Hard Drive Memory (4GB).
You can receive the large file by change to Hard Drive on the message: menu-message-option-other-memory (select the Hard Drive) and then ok.
If you don't change to Hard Drive, you may receive the maximum size 35MB .

    Good Luck!

maybe the memory that you're using to receive messages is your hard drive memory. I also encountered that problem and i can't relly open the messages that i recieve. Try to use the phone memory in receiving your messages..=)

N-91 Problems

Menu>Tools>Hard drive>Options>Tools>Format hard drive
Formatting the hard drive will clear any data stored on it. This should be a last resort and we'd suggest trying to scan the hard drive first. This will attempt to fix any hard drive disk errors. If your N91 does not have the scan option (some don’t) then connect to your PC in mass storage mode, right click on the F: drive, then hit scan.

Not enough memory means your phone is too full of data IE. Pics, Themes, Contacts, Applications, Games etc...
The phone needs a certain amount of memory to function.
When sending files via Bluetooth, some useless files remain on your phone these have to be deleted manually.

Data full, delette data on Nokia N91

files sent by bluetooth go to the phones own memory. You have to move them to your memory card manually, you may have 2 copies of some files , 1 in memory and 1 on the card.
