thanks, but already tried removing/replacing HD, CDrom, and memory modules, so it looks like this thing is bound for compaq tech center for repair.

On pressing the Power Button, while starting, it just holds on showing the label of COMPAC, and doesnt proceed further. Even F10 and F12  button have no effect over it. I have to keep restarting it several times, and just randomly after few trials it starts up.

I tried switching the RAM but ** luck.

You could try a usb keyboard and mouse, i had a pc that wolud beep twice when no keyboard was detected and power off, maybe the ribbion on the cable is faulty or the connector to mainboard.

can you enter bios to change values, ie can u change boot order?
check all connections on hard drive, cd,keyboard, touchpad.

you can rule out any virus or software related issue. its hardware related, have you got acess to a POST card, they are cheap these days and can tell you a lot.plug into usb slot and boot.

I'm having the same problem, and it will not boot of any CD. As soon as it turns on, it flips immediately to the to resume, to Setup pops on. No CD will boot, and you can not hit any keys or anything. could this be caused by a bad or corrupt (virus maybe?) MBR?

You need to got into bios and try starting from a os cd or try using a live cd (linux)

Update...ordered and replaced keyboard upon local pc techs recommendation...no joy.. Also tried booting off a linux live cd..again no joy. Same reaction as initially posted..What do I change next?

Have you tried starting pc with a os disk in cd drive to see what bios say(startup from cd for instance) .
sounds to me like parts of operating system missing and system is detecting no os.the system doesnt look for a hd it looks for os if it finds no os or os damaged;it assumes no hd thus 2 beeps.try install new copy, partition drive ,format and install.unsure bout this let me know.
points to consider....you get a logo means video fine, bios fine, memory fine.options to resume or enter setup indicate hd ok.two beeps mean something missing or not recognised.
stick windows in cd and startup, boot from cd(install or repair)

Hi,

Initially it may be suspected that your laptop is detecting a hardware problem, probably the hard disk. Since it partially boots and there is display, the following can be ruled out: video card, memory and display systems. That would leave us the hard disk and the motherboard left. If the motherboard is in question, chances are it is the BIOS.

Pls try and verify that the hard disk is connected snugly. The hard drive is usually inside one of the slots covered by a panel/lid held by a single screw.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, further diagnosis may be required.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.

The 2 beeps are an error code. It can mean a couple of things; 1. Bad or improperly seated RAM; or 2. Bad or improperly seated video card. The F2 option will take you into bios setup. But I would try the video card option first as it is the usual culprit in this situation. Hope this helps & please rate this solution fixya. Thanks.

Prosario V2000 boot problem

This means that there is some component was not fixed well.

this error means: " press esc to change boot order"
"press F10 for setup press F12 to boot from lan"
with 2 beeps " that the system cannot find hard drive:

fixed every thing: and try this. if prompted to go setup , continue and find "load bios setup default and then save and exit.

Troubleshooting my compaq

Best would be to get an anti-virus original disc (or rescue disk created on a clean pc) and have it boot from it rather then your normal operating system. other then that, have you tried to immeditaly press F8 just before it brings up the blue screen? you should be able to pick SAFE MODE from there and usually get it to work and inspect things.
