Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook
Upon power up 2 beeps, display briefly flashes Compaq logo then says "Press
You could try a usb keyboard and mouse, i had a pc that wolud beep twice when no keyboard was detected and power off, maybe the ribbion on the cable is faulty or the connector to mainboard.
can you enter bios to change values, ie can u change boot order?
check all connections on hard drive, cd,keyboard, touchpad.
you can rule out any virus or software related issue. its hardware related, have you got acess to a POST card, they are cheap these days and can tell you a lot.plug into usb slot and boot.

Have you tried starting pc with a os disk in cd drive to see what bios say(startup from cd for instance) .
sounds to me like parts of operating system missing and system is detecting no os.the system doesnt look for a hd it looks for os if it finds no os or os damaged;it assumes no hd thus 2 beeps.try install new copy, partition drive ,format and install.unsure bout this let me know.
points to consider....you get a logo means video fine, bios fine, memory fine.options to resume or enter setup indicate hd ok.two beeps mean something missing or not recognised.
stick windows in cd and startup, boot from cd(install or repair)

Initially it may be suspected that your laptop is detecting a hardware problem, probably the hard disk. Since it partially boots and there is display, the following can be ruled out: video card, memory and display systems. That would leave us the hard disk and the motherboard left. If the motherboard is in question, chances are it is the BIOS.
Pls try and verify that the hard disk is connected snugly. The hard drive is usually inside one of the slots covered by a panel/lid held by a single screw.
If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, further diagnosis may be required.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FIXYA.
