the problem is, when watching tv, all programming that is displayed on the tv looks like you watching everything in widescreen i guess to say.

for example.. when i am watching the today show on nbc, in the bootom left hand corner is where the today show icon is, time of day, and the temp... well i can only see half of what is suppose to be displayed.

or another example, when watching football on fox, in the top left corner where i should be able to see "fox", i can not see the letter F and can only see half of O. hope this helps

Okay, I got it. The problem you describe is caused by improper focus voltage. The fix could be anything from just an adjustment (unlikely) to a bad regulator assembly (more likely) to a defective winding in the high voltage transformer (also possible) Plan on spending 80 to 140 bucks for the repair....accordianman

Do I need a digtal converter box to pick up local stations via antenna?

Some local broadcasting will still be in analog but this is just jor simple programming such as college stations. To get local programming such as NBC,ABC,CBS etc. you will need to get a converter since the government has mandated all broadcast be in digital to free up air space.

Note that it may be a case by case basis for some smaller areas.

Trouble with Channel setup

It is important for the TV to know what type of
signal-Cable TV (CATV) or a normal antenna
you are using. Choose your signal (Antenna or
Cable):
Press MENU to see the main menu.
Press CH+ or CH- to highlight Setup.
Press OK
to enter the Setup submenu.
TV/CATV is highlighted. Press VOL+ or
VOL-
to select TV or CATV.
Choose CATV if you have Cable TV
service. (See page 4 for connection
details.) If you do not have Cable TV
service and you connected an antenna
to the TV, choose TV. (See page 5 for
connection details.)
Press MENU repeatedly to exit the
menu or the menu will automatically
disappear within a few seconds if no
buttons are pressed on the remote
control.

And here is the manual if you need .

Toshiba 32d46 32 tv has large black rectangle in center of screen''. Only on ABC local chanel

It's not a tech problem, or a tv problem, many local channels are "blackboxing" in advance of the move to HD. If you get an HDTV, or an HD adapter box, it should be fine.

Cannot get local channels back after dropping cable.

Are you positive that your city has not done the Digital Conversion? Some Cities are doing it early before the February deadline. Also make sure you are tuning in to the correct channels. Meaning that if on your Cable Provider ABC was on Channel 3 that does not mean that ABC with still be on Channel 3 after you have your Cable turned off. Most of the Time the Local Stations Tag will let you know what channel its on. It will be something like "KWAS ABC 27" So on your TV you would Tune it to channel 27 to get ABC and the same fore NBC , FOX, CBS , etc...
I hope this helps Take Care =)
