Burner not recognized

I have a Lite-on DVD R/W combo LH-20A1L BLO5.It's brand new.
I am running a Biostar P4M900 board with a P4 3.02 ghz processor,and 2 gigs DDR2.
When a blank cd or dvd is inserted,the icon changes to CD-ROM.It will not recognise either type of media.It plays cd's and dvd's with no problem,but will not function as a burner.I am using Nero 7 which came with it,and even tried to upgrade the firmware from lite-0n.When i tried to upgrade it ,it says it is for a different burner!
Very confused.Hope you can help!

- I forgot to mention.
I am using a biostar P4M900 board with SATA access.
It is a serial burner on it's own channel.
I have also used Nero 6 and 7.No luck
In fact,;ast time I tried to compile a DVD,The drive icon dissapeared altogether.Could there be some conflict with the SATA access?

- Thanks everyone,but I gave up and bought an LG burner.Guess what....Problem solved!Lite-on Has some issues to fix.

are you using the dvd drive you have as primary or secondary. make sure if you have two units that one is set to primary and the other is set to secondary or they will conflict

- My computer recognize the drive but there was a error saying that drivers file missing or corrupted error:code39.
the drive is not visible in windows explorer
I use samsung sh-w162z cd\dvd-rw

have you tried another burning application, If it works as a normal dvd/cd drive then I cant see any problems with IDE cable config as stated by Bear001, Does Nero 7 reconise the dvd burner, you could look on neros website to see if this is an issue or maybe use version 6, I have had no probs with this version, let me know how you get on and good luck!

What The Hell are You Smoking Xbox dude. Where did I say its was a IDE cable config problem? I was asking them a question not giving and answer to his problem.

Thanks for the response....
Now i have fixed my problem using information given in this site.
I have just deleted 2 filters in registry editor and now the drive works well but i couldnt burn any cd,dvd in my device there was a error while burning . I am using nero7..
Can you help with this problem.......
