H P Director not working

I have a H P V 40. Recently, I upgraded my computer and installed IE7. After this, I tried to install V 40 Director. I have the original CD with me. Once I try to install it, only redris scanner software get installed. the director is not getting installed. So, I cannot send faxes from my computer any more. I tried updating the driver from H P site. This also did not solve the problem. If I go the HP directory, I can see the icon of Director- but cannot run it. Please help.

Hi yesjay,

I've seen this exact same problem before. What I deduced from that experience is that the Readiris software takes over the redirector function of the HP Director service. The only way we got the HP Director to function again was to:

1.) Uninstall Readiris
2.) Uninstall the HP printer
3.) Reinstall the HP printer without installing Readiris

This resulted in the HP director service working properly again, but with the user unable to use the character recognition functionality provided by Readiris.

Run HP solution center as administrator. This is a temporary fix; try upgrading or reinstalling for a proper solution.

FROM THE HP WEBSITE:

If you’ve recently upgraded to the new Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), and you have a Hewlett Packard scanner or printer/scanner, then you will almost certainly be experiencing problems with starting it.
This affects almost every model of HP Printer (e.g. PSC 2510, PSC 2410, Officejet series) that uses the HP Director software. Hewlett Packard is working on a solution, which is due to an incompatibility with Javascript on the new IE7.
However, we have a workaround for you here! Just follow these very simple steps to get around the problem:
  • After double-clicking on the HP Director icon, nothing appears to happen... the program is starting normally, but it’s hiding.
  • Wait a few seconds, then hold down the ALT key and press the space bar. A small dialogue box will appear.
  • Click on Minimize (you may have to click twice)
  • Voila! the HP Director task will appear in the task bar at the bottom of the screen - click it, and the program will appear and work normally.
MY ADVICE IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM:
Don't install/uninstall IE7 and then use Firefox or some other web compliant browser instead.

How do i scan to compter


You need to load the software for the HP printer in question. Then you need to set it up. If you have IE7 installed (big E with a golden halo) then you need to go to the HP site and download the patch for the HP director or it won't work. Once there, you can configure it to scan to the computer.

Here is a sample screen of the HP director:

When you click on SETTINGS, SCAN SETTINGS AND PREFERENCES, SCAN TO SETUP, you get to this screen.

Installed but can't be found


We will experience this type of issues if the drivers are not installed properly.

Once remove the USB cable from the computer and insert the CD and click on ' add a device ' option and follow the onscreen instructions and connect the USB cable at the middle when it prompts.

Once it is finished, check for the printer icon and then try to print.

Also try to open the HP Director, if it doesnot open then download the IE7 patch from the HP website and then install it and try to open.

Please reply if you have any further more issues.

may be u have not installed the full feature software on your new computer , or if u have installed a newer version .

in case u r not able to find Hp Director on your computer , try to search for HP solution center , that is the upgraded version for hp directror .

or

u can reinstall the new software for office jet 7310 from the following link .

My HP Director will not open, I can not scan from the printer either. It was working fine one day and then just quit. I can still print but not scan. What is the solution?


HP Director simply doesn't open? Check your version of Internet Explorer. If you've recently installed Internet Explorer 7, you will need to download the update on the HP website. Go to hp.com, click "Software & Driver Downloads", enter your product, choose your operating system, and there should be an update/patch for Director issues with IE7. Hope this helps.

It could be about this: I had same problem until I found a review somewhere - even HP technical support was totally useless - until HP FINALLY decided to up date its drivers to account for my/many people's downloading of Internet Explorer 7. As this is now done, and you cannot easily uninstall IE7 and go back to IE6: try again (1) HP Director and if not (2) I think update drivers or (3) uninstall / reinstall. Hope it helps.
