Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Wont Record Will play back . But wont record. Manual says erasure prevention tab broken. This is not correct, as tapes have been recorded on same video player prior. When a tape is put in it starts to play without pushing play.

Usually when a tape starts to play automatically this means that the tab on the back of tape has been removed to stop others recording over it check the tab little black tab in a recess on back edge of tape if this is missing you can put a bit of sellotape over the whole to blank it off this will tell the video tape is ok to record on.
However if the tab is still in place the try putting a small bit of tape over it also to raise the clearence slightly then put back in video and try to record if this still dont work then the mechanism that detects the tab has failed these can be replace but usuall parts are hard to come by now as they no longer make vcrs any more but let me know ok i can assist you further just check tabs in place even try raising it with a bit of card stuck over tab with tape this might make the tab switch work if it has wonr down abit let me know ok.
As you look form back of tape the tab is bottom left hand corner check its flush with the tape if not use sellotape to repair let me know the outcome ok

Hi sorry i havent been online for couple of days but the mechanism that failed was that the recording prevention switch that had failed this is probably no good to you know as you sent it back to seller but you could have bypassed this mechanism allowing you to record again anyway hope you got sorted in the end

HOW DO I RECORD WITH A SONY SLV-N77 MANUAL DOES NOT HAVE ANY DIRECTIONS

Looks like a great brand with good features for the price.
  1. Connect Video & Audio Cables to a video signal source
  2. Connect Power Cable
  3. Turn on VCR.
  4. Insert a blank tape in the VCR.
  5. Note - A Broken Tab on the back of tape will prevent recording. This is called Write Protection.
  6. Cover the tab hole if you want to record over old video.
  7. Press RECORD on the VCR remote control.
  8. After a minute, press Stop, then PLAY to see recording.
  9. Cheers

Buttons Play or Play&Record will not stay gown

There is a feature, in a cassette recorder, when a cassette is "locked" to prevent it from erasure or record, if you break out a little notch on the back of the cassette When this is done, you can't press the record button. Perhaps something connected to that feature is blocking your deck. If the back pice of plastic left of the hole, is gone, the cassette is "write protected".
Look inside to see the "pal" that is in the deck.
Or perhaps your deck has a relais that should hold the button down, but it does not get any power? 6f4f166c-a584-4d29-9da6-e149a704708f.jpg

I cannot get my RCA Boombox Model no.RCD150 to record. Is there a trick to recording?

No trick. Did you follow the manual's instructions? What DOES it do instead? Are the erasure-prevention tabs missing from the target tapes? See page 14.

Tape doesn't stay down, keeps popping back out of cassette, on my Sony CCD-TVR608. Any ideas?

you are prohibited from recording on thips tape. This is because the red tab on the side of the tape that faces you when you are inserting the tape inside the camera has been put in 'SAVE' position . to be able to record o the tape you need to use your fingernail to slide the red tab to the 'REC' position.

to help you understand this issue:
Tape and recording protection
250px-8mm_cassette_erase_tab.jpg magnify-clip.pngThe write-protect switch (right) prevents accidental erasure. .
To prevent the recording on the tape from being erased, there is a small write-protect tab that can be moved to one of two positions, labeled "REC" and "SAVE". Comparing the sliding tab to a door, the tape is in the "REC" position is when the "door" is open and the "SAVE" position when it is closed. (Not all tape cases have markings for this information!) The tape can only be recorded on (or recorded over) when this tab is in the "REC" position. This is an improved version of the VHS write-protect tab, which prevents erasure after it has been (permanently) broken off.

Does not record, but plays back

One possibility is that the record sensor in the video that pushes on the back of a video tape where the tab that can be broken off to prevent recording on to the tape, is either bent out of shape or broken. They are often small switches easly replaced.

You can press play and pause, but then you can't press down rec. help.

Is the erasure prevention tab missing from a commercial or previously recorded cassette? It would leave a little (about 1/8" square) hole in the spine edge of the cassette shell. That tab is there to prevent accidental erasure by allowing a small sensor lever to drop in and mechanically disable the recording mechanism. Compare a commercial cassette with a brand new blank one. You can place a piece of adhesive tape on the casette to allow recording, but take care to NOT cover more than the first 1/8" of the opening if it is larger as the recorder also senses tape type by the length of the hole molded into the cassette.
Word to the wise - don't scrimp on the tape if the recording matters to you. Spend a bit extra for better tapes. Store the tapes 'played', avoid fast forwarding and rewinding unless you'll be playing them through to wrap the tape uniformly before storing it INSIDE its tape box. Read the other warnings that come with the media. No heat, moisture, dust, blah-blah.
