Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Wont Record Will play back . But wont record. Manual says erasure prevention tab broken. This is not correct, as tapes have been recorded on same video player prior. When a tape is put in it starts to play without pushing play.

Usually when a tape starts to play automatically this means that the tab on the back of tape has been removed to stop others recording over it check the tab little black tab in a recess on back edge of tape if this is missing you can put a bit of sellotape over the whole to blank it off this will tell the video tape is ok to record on.
However if the tab is still in place the try putting a small bit of tape over it also to raise the clearence slightly then put back in video and try to record if this still dont work then the mechanism that detects the tab has failed these can be replace but usuall parts are hard to come by now as they no longer make vcrs any more but let me know ok i can assist you further just check tabs in place even try raising it with a bit of card stuck over tab with tape this might make the tab switch work if it has wonr down abit let me know ok.
As you look form back of tape the tab is bottom left hand corner check its flush with the tape if not use sellotape to repair let me know the outcome ok

HOW DO I RECORD WITH A SONY SLV-N77 MANUAL DOES NOT HAVE ANY DIRECTIONS

Looks like a great brand with good features for the price.
  1. Connect Video & Audio Cables to a video signal source
  2. Connect Power Cable
  3. Turn on VCR.
  4. Insert a blank tape in the VCR.
  5. Note - A Broken Tab on the back of tape will prevent recording. This is called Write Protection.
  6. Cover the tab hole if you want to record over old video.
  7. Press RECORD on the VCR remote control.
  8. After a minute, press Stop, then PLAY to see recording.
  9. Cheers

I lost the owner manual so I don't know how to use it to record. Can you show me how to record it? or tell me the website where I can download the owner manual? My Lorex model is Sg7964

The manual is available here: http://www.midwestcommunications.com/cctv504.html . The direct link is: http://www.midwestcommunications.com/SG7964_manual.pdf .

If the timer is not currently active, then for a basic recording, put in a tape that has the erasure prevention tab in place. Then press Rec/PlaySpeed (up or down arrow) to set the recording speed. If you want to skip the setup steps, press Display. Then press Rec. Press Stop to stop recording.

I hope this helps.

How do I stop my ProScan VCR from recording?

I need more information, but if you find you are accidentally recording over tapes that you never want to record over, break off the record tab on the cassette itself.
If you do ever need to record over a tape with the record tab broken off, simply place tape over the tab hole.
If you don't mind voiding the warranty, you can install a record safety switch either in series or parallel (depending on the sensor type) with the record tab sensor inside the VCR, or in series with the record button itself.
Hide the switch in the back of the unit so nobody finds it.

I dont know where the record safety tab is

It's on the back edge of any VHS video tape, it looks like a square piece of plastic which is only attached at one side. Break it off and the VCR can't record on the tape. Cover the hole with sticky tape to record again. If your looking for the tab inside the machine just see where the loaded video lands. Most video tapes with it removed will go into automatic play when there's no tab. Also the VCR will eject the tape if any attemp is made to record on a protected tape.

Vhs tape ejects when pressing record

1. Rejected tapes on a VHS recorder is due to a dry belt that is the transfer belt on ejection tray is worn and needs replacement.
2. Because VHS recorder are now not so prevalent and there are so few repair shops specializing in there repair due to parts acquirement it may be best to get a new recorder.
3. Addressing the belts. The belts usually grips a pulley which in turn turns a gear that moves the ejection tray forwards/backwards when given a certain signal on from the control board. This could also be a worn gear from constant use of the load/ reloading of VHS tapes.
I hope this helps.

Does not record, but plays back

One possibility is that the record sensor in the video that pushes on the back of a video tape where the tab that can be broken off to prevent recording on to the tape, is either bent out of shape or broken. They are often small switches easly replaced.

We put a tape in vcr. we push record and the vcr ejects tape and shuts off.

Does the tape play normally? Does this happen with several tapes when you try to record? Check the record protect tab on the lower left hand side on the facing end of the tape. If this is broken or bent it will not record, you can put a piece of tape tightly across the tab as a repair

How can I record TV show? What buttons do I push?

Well my friend, you have many variables that can cause this issue. Here is a list.

  1. Check the tape record prevention tab to see if it is not missing that will cause it NOT to let you record. Put a piece of scotch tape over it if you wish to use that tape.
  2. Make sure it plays back. If it does not play back, it might not record.
  3. Turn the TV on, look for Audio and "Video Out" and connect it to the INPUT Video Out and Audio Out. You cannot use the TV to power the VCR. The power plug must be connected to the wall outlet.
One of these should solve your issue.
