I have a similar problem with my Hitachi 42HDT79 Plasma TV. My TV no longer displays the red light and the TV does not turn on anymore. Does anyone has this problem and is there any solutions?

Ditto- same exact problem- I've had the Hitachi 42 HDS69 TV about 1 1/2 yrs now and the problem started in the last 30 days- TV is in Standby mode with red light on- but TV will not power on (blue light) using the TV remote or the side buttons on the TV

I have the same problem!!!!!! Need help!!!

We purchased an Hitachi 42HDT79 plasma TV in September 2006. The standby red light is on, but the TV will not power on. I have followed the instructions in the TROUBLESHOOTING section of the owner's manual, but have had no success. I have found no evidence of anything else in the house being damaged, so I doubt this was caused by lightning or a power surge. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

SOURCE: Model 19PFL3403D/27 having trouble powering on the

The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

My LG TV red light won't turn on. although the plug fuse and the remote OK

Try manually pressing the power/standby button on the tv (side or bottom) the red light should appear, most modern tv's will turn on simply by pressing the channel up or down on the tv itself.. But unfortunately in most cases, this seems to be an internal surge and needs a professional to inspect..

Nec pxt-42sx1b won't turn on. We press the on button on the remote and the stand by light turns from red to blue but then goes back to standby.

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.3_26_2012_10_39_22_pm.jpg

It won't turn on

hi; try to check the power cord ,
if power cord has no problem it has standby light coming from the TV
when no light or dead set. there a fuse blown on the power supply section.
if there's standby light wont start , even if you press the power button , it has a power supply failure, maybe some capacitor ha bloated or change the value, try to watch this http://www.youtube.com if you know how to solder, or even disassemble the back of LCD TV. if not try to call a repair technician. thanks ,, hope this help.........

I have a new 42"

I'd tell you how to repair it, but it'd void your warranty, and I never advise anyone to void their warranty, so I suggest you take it back and get it fixed or replaced under warranty.

Cheers!

The remote control will not operate the TV when the TV is in the OFF mode (No LED lit on front bezel). To change the mode from OFF to STANDBY or ON, press the POWER button on the side of the TV. Once the POWER button is pressed, the LED will change to either red to indicate STANDBY or green to indicate ON, whichever mode the TV was in prior to being turned off with the TV POWER button.

By pressing the POWER button on the side of the TV, the mode will toggle from OFF to either STANDBY or ON. If the POWER button is pressed and then the LED on the bezel is red, the TV is in STANDBY mode and will need to be turned on using the remote control. If the POWER button is pressed and then the LED on the bezel is green, the TV is ON.
