If your camcorder is a digital version, you should have a 1394 iLink Firewire cable which is needed to connect your camcorder to your PC. A Firewire is a higher transfer rate connection than USB 1.0 (but slower than USB 2.0), and it is intended for applications such as video editing. Some camers, e.g., Sony, require a Firewire connection to exploit certain features of a digital camcorder and editing software, and it's best to use one. If you do need the Firewire but your computer doesn't have a 1394 Firewire port built in, you can purchase a PCI card version for around $50 and install it separately very easily.

And if your computer doesn't have the 1394 port, but does have a USB 2.0 connector (all newer computers now do), then you can connect your camcorder to your PC via the USB 2.0 (note: NOT a USB 1.0!) to begin capturing video. If you're still having trouble, make sure you go to your camcorder manufacturer's website to download any relevant drivers then retry your connection. If your computer Finds New Hardware sucessfully, you're in. Good luck!

Can you please tell me why when i try to import vidoes using picture motion browsing i am getting the message Cannot find source media for importing,

You might be connecting the Camcorder using USB interface. Picture Motion Browser Cannot be used for transferring videos from tape camcorder (mini DV in your case) using USB interface..

Operating System also matters..

If you're using XP OS, you can install the driver from supplied CD and use Windows Movie Maker to transfer the recordings using USB interface.

Vista, Windows 7 - You need to use i.LINK or A/V interface to transfer the recording. When using i.LINK with Vista, you can use the Picture Motion Browser software.

I think this will definitely help you to connect the Camcorder..

I have lines going through my vidoes when i transfer them to the computer , how do i get rid of them ?

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. How to transfer sony dcr-hc26 videos to pc using usb cable thanks

The Sony HDR-HC26 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. No surprises if you can't get USB streaming working.

ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer DV-format video by conneting the DV port of the HD camcorder to the Firewire port of your computer. USB won't work. The "DV" in miniDV = Digital Video. It is as digital as the digital video from flash memory or hard disc drive or DVD based camcorders - only better because it is not compressed as much as the others.

Memory cards are not the only way to store digital video - and while not as good as miniDV tape, memory cards are not as bad as DVD based consumer camcorders...

Firewire IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot (PCI for desktops; PCMCIA or ExpressCard for laptops), so you can add one.

How do you put video from your camcorder to your computer?

With a Canon ZR70MC camcorder, you can record video onto miniDV tape, or onto the SDmemory card in Card Camera mode.

To access video on the miniDV tape, you will use the DV cable (IEEE 1394 aka FireWire). Connecting this cable to your windows computer will allow you to transfer high quality video using the software supplied on the digital video solutions disc, or just about any other windows video editing software.

To access videos stored on the SD memory card, remove the card and place it in a card reader connected to your computer, or attach a usb cord to the camera and the computer. Video stored on the memory card is limited to 10 second clips @ 320x240 resolution.

Palmcorder Vidoe Transfer Issues

usb will ONLY work for tranfering "pikts" you "must"use a firewire cable, port, and software(sony vegas, pinnacle, ect')to"capture"or "save"the video to your laptop.(being you have a mini-dv tape cam)
heres the low-down, unless your laptop has at least 1-gig ram,160+gig hard drive, firewire port, dvd burner,2.5ghz processor,,,it's goin to be a struggle.
capturing a good quality video to your comp hogs a LOT of space(25-35 gigs per hour of footage!),dvd creation (authoring)is another world!.
if you simply want to put somthing on the web,buy a nice photo camera with video recording,or a mini DVD disk camcorder,OR-a HDD(hard drive)camcorder,,,ALL the priors dont requier anything "special"to get it on to your laptop, and can be edited for posting by simple progs like "movie maker(xp,vist)or i movie(mac),but if you want a dvd of your final product, you MUST have a "authoring"prog like sony vegas or pinnacle.
--from my experience for tape camcorders, firewire is the only and best way to get it to your harddrive(set  capture settings to "mpeg2,or,AVI"
good luck!!

Which wires and programs do u need to have to put my vidoes onto the computer my video camera is CCD-TRV128 NTSC

This is analog video camera and can not be connected directly with computer.

Computer requires video files in digital format to store / write it on HDD or write a CD / DVD.

Best option is hook camera with DVD Recorder and burn DVD, now you have video of camera in digital format and can upload / transfer in computer for desired task.

Vidoe transfers

It cannot be done, the camera only recognizes videos taking with the camera and has not been erased. One transfer off camera and erased, no way to access the video file.

Transfer video from tape to computer

mjtlj:

You will need a firewire cable to successfully transfer video from your tape to your computer. It also greatly helps to have a firewire port on your computer. Once you have connected your firewire port on your camera to the firewire port on your computer, you can use windows movie maker to transfer video to your computer. (File > Import for Digital Video Camera)

If this has helped you, please report this problem as fixed :)

How to transfer mini dv tape to dvd or vcd

you should have a few choices with this model: usb, firewire, composite a/v..

this link will take you to canon's download page for your camera,

the dvmessenger app should let you view your camera on the comp, use it for videoconferencing, and view it online, as well as remotely control it, although it may not let you transfer much.

your camera should have come with an installation cd that included digital video software. if it did not, you will have to contact canon for a replacement cd.

i would recommend downloading the product manual from the above site and checking page 134

in addition you can use the memory card to transfer files via a memory card reader on the pc, these can be picked up inexpensively at most camera and computer stores. your camera however should be fine if you are using windows xp and the usb cable for your camera.

hope this helps,
trin
