Question about Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One Printer

Print Quality Settings

How do you set the print quality default to fast draft? The factory settings are Standard and if I want fast draft I must go into the properties and select fast for each and every document.

Most annoying.

How to SAVE money using LESS ink when printing with your printer. In a few...

Hi,
The first thing I always recommend to anyone printing is to turn the default print settings of the printer down to draft mode black and white. Now you can leave it to color if you know you are going to need color often. If you print a lot of things just for the simple fact of needing it to read or see. Then chances are you don't the quality to be the best or even close to that. Draft quality is a great way to use less ink. By turning it on as the default you will be saving money with every print, and at anytime you go to print you can just change the settings of that specific print and it won't affect your default settings. So here we go, I will show you the easy steps to changing your default printer settings to draft quality.

Step 1: Click Start > Control Panel

Step 2: Now open Printers And Faxes

Step 3: Right-Click on the printer you use/want to change the settings on. Click Printing Preferences...dc97e68.jpg

Step 4: Click on the Paper/Quality tab at the top. Then click the Black & White and Draft "radio button". Once you have done that click the Apply button. Then click OK. That is it your all done. Enjoy the savings. Depending on how much you print you may or may not notice this. But it is a definite way to save on ink consumption/cost.

Wow Pamela! You ask your question well. Good Job! Print options such as that can not be set at the printer. Changing the settings inside the application is not permanent. Follow HPs instructions here for default settings:

When you click to print something, you will get what's called the Print Dialogue box. Before clicking "OK", click the Properties button.26849353-6c28-4abb-ab9c-b5e445a1b08b.jpgThis will take you to a screen with some tabs. Click on the Paper/Quality tab. Somewhere in that window you will see some options for "Print Quality".

By default, it is probably set to "Normal". That's the middle setting. To save ink, you can set it to Fast Normal (better for ink saving) or Fast Draft (best for ink saving). This means the printer will use less ink to print the page. The final copy will look a little lighter but certainly still readable.

This option "fast draft" will print very fast and also save your ink.

Change the printer's print settings to print in draft mode.
Draft mode is a low quality, but highest speed print mode.
  1. In Windows, click on the Start button and choose Control Panel.
  2. Choose Printers and Other Hardware from the menu that opens.
  3. Choose View Installed Printers or Fax Printers.
  4. On the window that opens, look for your printer's name. Right click on the printer's icon and choose Printing Preferences.
  5. On the Print Quality tab, choose Draft or Fast (varies depending on the printer).

I print labels with my Microline 320 Turbo. I put a new ribbon in and the labels are so wet and bold and after sitting for awhile they bleed until you can't read them. I have the lever on the print head...

This results from theway the print head is striking the paper. If you have it set to NLQ. it will be heavy, you can set it to a draft mode or SSD:

Print the Menu Settings, to see what your settings are:

Printing the settings is the only way to have a record of

the settings.

1 Make sure paper is loaded in the printer.

2 Enter the Menu Mode (SHIFT + SEL).

3 Press PRINT (PARK key).

Print Quality

! Important!

Front panel settings for print quality and character

pitch are overridden by software commands.
The lights will always reflect the printer's state.

Press PRINT QUALITY to select:

NLQ: Near Letter Quality

• Highest quality, slowest speed

• Courier or Gothic fonts

• Recommended for correspondence

UTL: Utility

• Medium quality, medium speed

• Gothic font only

• Recommended for internal documents and high-volume

data.

HSD: High Speed Draft

• Lower quality, faster speed

• Gothic font only

• Recommended for drafts.

SSD: Super Speed Draft

• Lowest quality (12 cpi only), fastest speed

• Gothic font only
• Recommended for fastest output of drafts.

Super Speed Draft

To use Super Speed Draft (SSD), enter the Menu Mode and

make changes as follows:

1 Press SHIFT + SEL.

2 Press GROUP twice.

3 Press SET until DRAFT prints as the setting for the Print

Mode.

4 Press ITEM.

5 Press SET (SSD prints).

6 Press SHIFT + SEL to exit Menu Mode and save your
changes.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

Streaks on copy

Try these steps first:

1. Check ink level.

2. Nozzle Check Pattern
  1. Load A4- or letter-size plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder (ASF) or cassette.

  2. Press the <Feed Switch> button to select the appropriate paper source.

  3. Press <Menu> repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears.

  4. Press <OK>.
The machine prints a nozzle check pattern.

    bde48f2.jpg

  5. Confirm the pattern is not broken, missing, or a specific color is not printed.

3. Print Head Cleaning / Head Refreshing If the printed Nozzle Check Pattern is broken, missing, or a specific color is not printed, clean the print head.
  1. Press the <Menu> button on the printers operation panel repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears in the LCD.

  2. Press the left [<] or right [>] arrow buttons to select the cleaning setting you want. Select [HEAD CLEANING] or [HEAD REFRESHING] for deep print head cleaning.

Note: [HEAD REFRESHING] uses more ink than [HEAD CLEANING], so perform [HEAD REFRESHING] only when necessary.

  3. Press the <OK> button.

  4. Print a Nozzle Check Pattern and perform at least two Head Refreshings if the pattern is not correct.

You can also try using a higher quality print settings as follows:

Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows) The Quality setting controls how finely ink droplets are placed on the printed page. Depending on the type of paper being used a higher Print Quality setting does not always insure a better print. Print speed will decrease as the Print Quality setting is increased. Follow the instructions below to change the print quality settings in the Canon printer driver for the Windows operating system through a printing application.
  1. Click 'Properties' in the Print dialog box.

Note: Depending on the Application software, 'Properties' may be displayed as 'Preferences'.

  2. Set the desired print quality in the 'Print Quality' section.

  3. Select 'High', 'Standard', or 'Draft / Fast'.
To set more detailed print quality settings, follow this procedure:
  1. Select 'Custom' and click 'Set'.

    cc8d5b7.jpg

  2. In the Set Print Quality dialog drag the slide bar from 'Fast' to 'Fine' to select the print quality.

Note: There are five options in 'Quality'. However, selectable options are limited depending on the media type.

  3. Select 'Auto', 'Dither', or 'Diffusion' from the 'Halftoning' section.

If the above steps do not solve your problem, it may be a time to purchase a new printhead.
