Your Display cable (inside your monitor) needs to be replaced.

I would look on ebay to try and find the part and then take it to a local tech to replace it for you as I would not recommend anyone take apart a monitor (LCD OR CRT) if you had never done so before.

OR, Buy a new monitor.

Check the cable going into the back of your monitor and the cable from your monitor into your computer, one of them is most likely loose.

Have a purple line that runs down the screen on my s27a950d monitor. is there a solution to this?

You can use this pixel test, this test for dead pixels, but it will also help with stuck pixels, move through the colors, look at each color to see if the line remains on each color, then switch between colors as fast as you can, do this at least 5 times cycling through the colors. If this does not help I think you will have to go to the MFG website and check your warranty. If you don't have one or it's expired and you end up buying a new one, make sure you check newegg.com, one of the best places around for computer parts.

There may be a few issues her, try changing the contrast andbrightness of the screen, this can be done by using the buttons on the monitor, check any documentation you have if you're having trouble. If this doesn't fix it could be a monitor problem for your videocard itself. Try using another monitor,if possible, to test your video card or try your monitor on another pc/laptop. If the monitor works fine on another machine then chancesare it's a problem with your video card, it may even need replacing.

Have you unplugged the power cord to the LCD? Let it sit for a minute, then try it. ALWAYS buy a UPS and plug any computer devices into it. Doesn't have to be big, a $50 unit will protect it from dangerous voltage surges.

It might just need degaussing. If the monitor is equipped with a degauss button, try pressing it. If not, it might eventually go away with time - sometimes when CRT monitors are moved and change orientations odd color distortions due to magnetic fields result. After a while the magnetic field fades and the colors will be back to normal.

Otherwise, upgrade to an LCD - easier on the eyes, and a lot easier on the back. :)

Horizontal line throught the screen.

Sounds like it might be getting too hot and/or going bad. Try it on another machine and see what it does. Also try another video card because the video card could be going bad.
