LG RH265 - Problem when trying to register blank disk/dubbing

Hi, My RH265 DVD/HDD Recorder is not registering blank DVD's to intitalise and is coming up with the unknown disk type. If I enter a disk and use the HDD Movie menu to Dubb a recorded program I only get the Change Inserted Disk. I have used quite a few different types of blank discs and get the same answer. Is there something specific that could be wrong, as I have dubbed many programs before wthout a problem. Thank you in advance :-)

I have the same problem. Have tried numerous types of disks but it keeps coming up that I have to insert a blank disk. Seems to be a major manufacturing error - mine is over 12 months old so dont think manufacturer will be much help now unless they can solve it for us all.

I had a similar problem with my RH2T80 and called LG more times than I care to remember with no solutions. I too have dozens of disks of all the different formats in different brands and nothing would work. LG treated me like I was some kind of idiot and that it must be me that is the problem not their top quality machine. HA HA! In the end I decided to get nasty with them and low and behold it turns out this is a common problem and they are aware of it. I had bought my machine online and there are no service dealers around here for hours so I demanded they pay for and arrange a courier which they did. I had the machine back, fixed, within two weeks. Have not had any probs since. As far as I know they replaced the disk drive and something else. Don't give in to them. My machine was purchased with the specific idea of copyilng home movies of my babies to disk and never worked from the minute we got it. Prior to getting fixed it was also very sensitive and we found we couldn't hire movies 'cause they never worked. Now it is great! What a shame you have to beg just to get something that works. Won't buy LG again!

I have a range of purchased DVD's and some will play some won't. I get the DVD not recognised oor incompatible disk errors even though I'm sure that a DVD that now produces an error has played on the machine previously.

The DVD needs to initialise the disk first. Come out of the HDD dubbing menu and press DVD on the remote. The blank recordable disk should be recognised and you should see Initialise disk? on the screen. Press Start and hey presto, you can now dub from the HDD Movie dubbing menu (as per the manual instructions).

To finelize a dvd on this player u burn everything then u go into the disk and u go to titlename and go ok then u can go to the start menu and the finalize part shows, u dont have to change the name of title u just go to that and click ok on the dvd part under hdd menu where u view dvds, only one title not all of them and it works. its not mentioned in the booklet so how they expect u to no that is beyound me, LG are well lets say not very helpful with there shotty products, i had a fridge that broke down less then 10 months after i got it where it was a frost free that froze in freezer which stop fridge part working, they tried to fix it over 2 yrs and then they gave up and said they wouldnt fix it, so i made a complaint to consummer affairs and they have been on there back since they sent a new repair guy out at christmast and its now may and no ones been back.they said if they cant fix the problem its just bad luck id never buy anything else of theres for the way they treated me

When using dvd-r unit must be in dvd mode to initialize. if using dvd+r it will do it in either dvd or hdd modes and in order for them to play on other units you have to finalize the disc by going into the disc menu and selecting disc and then finalize.

Maybe DVD RW, perform a full erase and initialise through Nero. If you can get the recorder to register the disk then try formatting or initialising with the recorder's in built tools.

Other than that could it be a region issue?

LG RH265 does not read DVDs

Purchase a DVD cleaning kit and follow the instructions, this will remove any dirt from the laser pickup lens, and hopefully get it up and running. If this fails, the only other option is have the whole laser assembly replaced, "expensive" or replace the entire unit.

HDD/DVD Model RH265 : worked perfectly for 14 months. Now will not allow deletion of data from HD and also will not allow recording to HD. Symbol circle with diagonal bar appears on screen . Still allows...

Sounds like the hard disk might be full. How many recordings have you got on the machine? You say it won't allow you to delete "data". Have you protected the recordings?

LG HDD/DVD Recorder Model: RH265

What you need to do is to put in your dvd that you wish to copy onto and then press the DVD button on your remote control. (this is next to the HDD button which is under the POWER button) Then follow the on screen prompts and instructions in the owners manual. I had the same problem but found the solution by mistake!

Hope this helps,

Nicky

Recording problem with LG RH266 Recorder..

Just bought unit. Had same problem.Tried lots of different types of disks with no luck. Tried to play already written +R disk. Worked OK. Then took out and replaced with blank -R. Came up with new screen asking me if I wanted to initialize disk. Answered yes and it took about 20 seconds. Then tried to DUB from HDD to DVD again. This time it came up with the dubbing menu, I hadn't seen before, and worked.
Hardly ideal, but the trick was to get it to recognise it as a blank and initialize. Currently burning my first disk. Didnt realise about 'FAST' mode, so taking ages.
