Inspiron Keyboard Jumps Around

My keyboard on my Dell Inspiron 1420 running Windows Vista basic jumps around when I'm typing. It just did. ha. I can use an external keyboard, but this is a laptop. I don't know what to do. And if the answer is to reinstall the drivers, can you tell me how?

Install the latest touchpad driver from support.dell.com

There is a setting in the touchpad tab of the mouse driver. Either Enable PalmCheck or Disable touchpad when typing (Depends on Synaptics or Alps drive I believe)

With palmcheck enabled, the touchpad is disabled when typing

Click the Windows "Start" button or press the "Windows" key. The "Start" menu opens. Type "Cursor blink" in the "Search programs and file" text box. A list opens. Click "Change Cursor Blink Rate." The "Keyboard Properties" window opens. Click the "Speed" tab. A list of options appears. The "Cursor Blink Rate" section shows a "Cursor Blink Rate" slider displaying a range from "None" to "Fast." Hello I have an Inspiron 1420 that is typing

Hi John,
It sounds to me like you have your Num Lock on. Find the Num Lock key (it should be on the top right of the keyboard) press that key and your keyboard will return to normal.

Regards.

Cursor jumps around when typing. It will go anywhere in the document. Happens in all programs.

What type of keyboard you are using (PS/2 or USB)? Is that a regular keyboard or multimedia keyboard? You need to isolate the problem. Please follow the steps below.

If you are using a USB keyboard:

1. Connect the keyboard into different USB ports of the computer.
2. Connect the keyboard into different computer.
3. Try using different keyboard to see if the problem will persist.

If that is a wireless keyboard:

1. Try replacing the battery
2. Connect the receiver into different USB ports.

Check the keyboard settings:

1. Go to the Control Panel > Keyboard
2. Adjust the keyboard settings and speed.

Hope it helps and have a great day!
