Same problem with blue area at bottom of screen on my KDF-55WF655

    Calling Sony now.

Same problem with the blue hue at the bottom except that it's on a KDF-55XS955. Calling Sony tomorrow.

  • colq Jul 25, 2008

The blue looks like liquid spreading across the screen. Now there are "ghosts" within the blue i.e. lettering for a prgm description etc. Sony says they are covering replacement for some TV's - but there hasn't been enough complaints for my model - Grand Wega KDF-E50A10. Nothing like standing behind your product! We purchased in Feb 2006 - have replaced the bulb (expensive) twice and have had the software fix for some other problem. Can't get past low level customer service to escalate this unacceptable problem. Any suggestions?

On my KDF-55WF655 the blue hue is on the right side from top to bottom. Called sony and told them the problem and they offered to fix it or replace it with KDL-52W4100 that sells for 2999.99 for a discounted price of 849.00. Needless to say I went for the newer model that has only been out since March of this year. Glad I found this site.

I called SONY this week about our KDF-50WE655 purchased in July of 2005. Same blue hue problem starting just a couple of weeks or so ago in the bottom right hand corner and spreading across and up towards the middle. They offered free repair or discounted upgrade. We are going with the upgrade.
They're having me keep our present unit and bringing us a new upgrade.
Does anyone have any idea how long a unit will last once this blue hue problem has started or how much it cost to replace the Optical Block?

Had my tv repaired today it was the optical block and it's covered under the warranty by sony. Whoever is having this same problem with the blue screen at the bottom of the tv, please call sony @ 1-800-222- Sony and explain to them, and have your tv fixed free, we did and happy it's done. Don't delay you have until the end of the year to get this done!

I was having the same problem with the blue hue problem in the lower left corner growing across the lower portion of the screen and moving upwards into the screen on a Sony KDF-42WE655 that I purchased in November of 2004. I came across this website while surfing the net for "SONY KDF-42WE655". I called Sony at 800 222 SONY and like everyone else describes here - they lined me up with a service technician who ordered and replaced the optical block this week - for FREE, no charge for parts or labor. It solved the problem. THANKS to FIXYA and to SONY!!

I have a KDF-60XS955 with the blue hue problem in the lower left corner growing across the lower portion of the screen. We got the TV in summer of 2005 and the blue hue just started this March of 08. I called the Sony number above and described the issue. They said it may be the optical block before I told them I read about it here. They set me up with a repair service that will fix it for free if thats what is wrong with it. I'll get back in here when it is repaired and report how it went.

I called 800-222-Sony. I described my problem to the rep (Optical block or Star pattern). They directed me to a local service center. All I had to do was call the service center & give them my info. When the part comes in they are going to come to my house and install it for free!!! Now that is service!!! Sony really stepped it up on this issue. They have definitely gained my respect. You don't need to be in warranty or even have a receipt. They will fix it for free regardless. Thanks for the info guys.

Call SONY at 800 222 SONY and explain it to them ....

I called! It is called the "blue dot" or "star pattern" or "optical block."

Sony covers this problem. They are sending someone out. When the service rep confirms that it is the "optical block" problem

I have a Grand WEGA 60 inch KDF-60WF655. Bought it July 2005 problem came up January 2008.

Probably the optics block. It needs to be replaced.

However, it looks like you're in luck. Sony will reimburse you.

Problem with sony 60" rear projection TV

Hi,
I'm afraid, it is problem of optical block unit (light engine) that produce picture by 3 lcds inbuilt, the blue lcd and its related uv filters become defective and causing this kind of blue hue on screen.
Complete optical unit block (light engine) will be replaced by qualified tech to get tv fixed, light engine is costly part so ask an estimate before sending tv in.
Thanks.

Have a blue tint or hue on the screen of my Hitachi 50vs69 television. The tint does not cover the whole screen just an irregular pattern near the middle vertical axis of the screen.

The Optical Block is causing this. Due to the cost of replacing I would call Hitachi at 1800-448-2244 and see if they would be will to help you with the cost.
Hope this helps,

Blue hue accross bottom of screen - Sony KF-50WE610

You can try doing this, turn on the Tv and select the service menu, if that tint also shows on the menu, it's most probable to be your DMD board, but if it doesn't it might be the video board..

A blue semi-circular hue on the bottom left of the screen

9 times out of 10 the Blue Polarizer heats up and discolors which causes that problem, all projector's have the same issue and have for years. My professional recommendation is get in touch with Sony, they have been extending the warranty's for this issue. If they won't the have a servicer replace the light engine of which is not cheap.

3LCD Projection TV 2.5 years old displaying blue hue/blobs

I would first try a new lamp. If the reflector portion of the lamp has any defects, it could show up this way as the light would not be uniform. The next possibility is a defective light engine. The engine portion if not field repairable and would need to be replaced. Try the lamp first and let us know what happens.

Which part(s) to replace?

If the screen looks OK after extended cooling is provided, you may just have a failed cooling fan.
Turning the blade with the power off will tell you if the bearings have failed or stuck, or just look at it with a flashlight to see if it is turning.
Check this first before you start replacing boards.
