Maytag Neptune out of balance on spin cycle

By cdt1240 on Feb 15, 2008

Front load washer on spin cycle out of balance and therefore vibrates alot and makes noise. However, all vibration is internal meaning the unit is level and solid but acts as a bearing is going out or whatever controls the balance on the spin cycle is faulty. I have not taken apart yet to have a look but do you have any ideas before I dive in?

-thanks

- I finally got to it and confirmed all is okay on your suggestion. Now after taking apart I found the problem in inside the drum housing which is enclosed. It is not obvious and in low spin speeds not noticable but at higher RPM's it begins to get out of balance and has a thumping noise with vibration. Do you have any suggestions? I am concerned the repair will now be labor intensive and curious if any special tools are needed to disassemble the drum unit?

-   Won't spin on small loads, out of balance all the time ....have to wring the clothes by hand then add a towel then it will spin. Just a really poor design that ties your clothes in a knot.-   Guest

-   Oh boy, I have the same problem. We purchased this model in Sept. 2005. The authorized repair man said $800 to repair this thing. Can you believe it - $800????? So, I called Maytag, and there is currently no warranty for this repair, and no pending class action lawsuit on this model (only on the front loading Neptune). Maytag offered me a 15% discount towards another Maytag purchase. As if!!

Perhaps we should start a similar class action claim on this model. The participants in that claim at least received some compensation.-   Sheilah20s

-   I had mine repaired this morning and thought the cost was really high, $429.00! He said he had to put in a new board in the back.

If the washer fails to drain properly it will have difficulty balancing. This causes the washer to walk across the floor. We noticed ours having a tough time starting into the spin cycle. There was noticable water remaining in the tub, visible at the very back. My wife found a quarter in the pump, about a 10 minute fix.

I believe the problem has to do with the strut design. They are either too small or at improper angle. Maytag will not even acknowledge the possibility.
