I have a Whirlpool freezer top refrigerator model that is 13 years old. I took out the crispers to clean them, and now I can't get all the parts back in. There's a long metal bar that must be a stablizer that I can't figure out how to put back in. It doesn't seem to fit and allow the crisper drawers to slide.
The bar goes into slots right above the drawers and under the shelf above the drawers. It's not obvious to see at first. It's at the very front of the shelf. You have to slide one end of the bar in first then the other side. The bar sticks out a little on each side so it can sit in the groves on the side walls of the fridge. For the longest we tried to put it underneath the drawers even though we knew it wasn't right. Hope this helps. The Whirlpool website can give you a parts manual if you enter the model number.
I spent a good part of the day trying to figure out how to get the bar back into the correct position. After numerous internet searches and several telephone calls (including the manufacturer and my appliance repairman) I came across this answer. Thank you for saving my day!!!
I would like to add a little more description as to how to replace the support bar. Turn the plastic frame over and look at the side of it very close to the front corner and you will see the channel that you have to slide the bar on. It then slides across the width of the plastic frame which holds the drawers.
