Question about Network & Wireless Adapters

1 Answer

Internet connection My friend who has the Linksys1 wireless broadband router hooked up although she's not using it with her Gateway desktop. We're trying to see if we can use her Dell Inspiron 2500 wirelessly. Gets an error message. So we have it plugged in, and it's getting power, but when I go to Internet Explorer get the "page cannot be displayed" screen. I've heard there are ways to search for the wireless service, but would be happy just with the internet connection. I have the add/remove program screen up, and see that it shows Netgear and "2 wire wireless client" (not sure what that means. Any suggestions. Final question, on the gateway desktop keyboard, which only she uses, and from which I'm typing I notice that I'm typing but nothing is showing up on the screen. Would you know why.

It appears you will need a checklist to determine what
is the right solution to your friend problem.

1. Does she has an active account with ISP provider?

2. Check to see if the Linksys1 router is functional.
Suggestion to connect the Gateway Desktop or the Dell notebook
network port to the router via Ethernet cable and see if it has access to the Internet.

3. Operating System?
There are different wireless solution but it depends on the version ands service pack level of the operating systems.

4. Keyboard Problem
Suggestion
Wireless Keyboard - Install fresh batteries
Wire Keyboard - Check the wire or clean
the keyboard.

If you can address the above...it is start...

How do I hook up a Berklin wireless router to my comcast internet

Use an Ethernet cable to connect the port on the Comcast modem to the WAN port on the Berklin (Belkin????) router.
Use another Ethernet cable to connect one of the LAN ports on the router to the Ethernet port on your computer.
Start Internet Explorer on your computer.
Connect to the web-interface inside the router.
Run the "network setup wizard".
Run the "wireless setup wizard".

Broadband connection

You should find the manual that comes with the Router. It will have good instructions on the details to configure this.

Basically you will use your browser on your desktop to connect to a web page within your nb504 router.
You will turn on wireless connections and enable security plus give your wireless network a name.
Once that is done you will configure security on your laptop to connect to your wireless network.

Don't skip the security bit or your neighbors will be able to use your internet connection for free.

The default settings in modem devices are really good these days so follow the recommendations in your router manual and you should be able to figure it out.

If you can't find your router manual you should be able to download it from Netcomm.

Hope this helps

NETGEAR Wireless G USB Adaptor Problems

I contacted Bigpond after my whole internet collapsed due to my amature abilities in fixing the internet. >_<" yet they fixed my internet connection by disconnecting my current (DLINK DIR-300) router from the network. hmmmm... the technician also confirmed that my current broadband modem (2WIRE 2071-A) isnt capable of supplying a shared connection to more than one computer!! she also directed me towards a modem with an inbuilt wifi router that "supposedly" is the best option right now. (2701HGV-W) I'm a bit shaky and the stupid NETGEAR adaptor problem still exists - im willing to buy the new modem if its guaranteed to abolish this problem and give me a better internet wise outlook - please any suggestions will be appreiciated =)

Youe broadband router is working ok with the broadband cable. So it is configured with the broadband cable. Now,to work with the wireless internet, you have to configured the wi-fi router to work internet. You can see the wi-fi connection but unless & untill you will configure wi-fi router it must not work or if before it was working with the wi-fi then you can check the wi-fi router setting because it might change by mistake.Surely it will work after configurating wi-fi router.

At&t usbconnect mercury

It is remotely possible but will be very complicated. You will have to leave the computer with the Mercury powered up all the time and use internet connection sharing to provide access to the other computers. But also you will need to reconfigure your router as a dumb switch since your PC will now be the DHCP server. In short it's not easy and not practical - but it is possible.

USB Broadband to wireless router through desktop PC

If I get you right you are useing a 3g Internet connection and have a router wich conets the 2 computers together, the problem is that you can't share the internet connection.
Without any information about the operateing systems I can tell you the idea:
First you need to disable DHCP server on the router and use static IP addresses on both PC, the IP address should be something like

PC1:
IP: 192.168.0.2
Network mask:255.255.255.0

PC2:
IP: 192.168.0.3
Network mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.2

In this IP configuration above PC1 has the 3g modem connected.
This was the easy part, hard part is to share the internet connection on the network, that's a little different ritual on every operateing system, try to use google to get your specific one.

However there's a much more easier way to solve all your problems if you can't make it work, but it costs money. All you need to buy is a 3G router and that will do the same thing for you what your old router did.
I did a little search for you on Australian Ebay to see what you can get.
But I'm sure you have your own cheapbfavourite source of computer hardware as well.

Hope this will help you sorting out your porblem.

Imre

D-Link DWL-G510 Connected but no packets

Hi,
According to the user guide for your motorola broadband modem it doesnot support wirless capability , ie it can only hook your computers to the interenet using the wire. refer the following link

http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB5101/downloads/SB5101_UG_EN.pdf

What is required , is additional pair of hardware ie.
1. Wireless Router(eg linksys or netgear)
or
2.Router/broadband modem(given by the ISP)

Your connection would then be configured through the wireless router , that would give you wireless capability.

Refer to the following link , it gives you the a step by step guide to setting up the wireless connection .
http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/2003/03/21/home_wifi.html

Best of luck .....

Thanks
mandeep

PS Do let me know if you need more assitance.

Wireless ADSL setup for WIN ME

Hi, I am assuming that you have installed the necessary USB drivers for the LINKSYS Wireless G in your ME machine and that you can ping your router from the same desktop. Based on your post/description "...The connection to the router is there but I can not connect to the internet...." would indicate that your Win ME desktop is not configured to use the wireless router as the default internet gateway. Rather than "Obtain IP add automatically" in your ME, try manually configure and to "Use the following IP address". Follow and use the numbers of your laptop's wifi connection except for the IP add. Simply add 1 to the last digit. For example if your laptop's wifi IP add is 192.168.100, make the ME 192.168.1.101. All the other numbers should be the same (SubNet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS) To be able to get the laptop's numbers, open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all". It is also possible that security settings (WEP, WPA or MAC filter) are not working right with the ME machine, try turning them off in your router to test. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.
