Sounds like your F1 fuse has blown. This fuse is located inside the DS lite and is very small (the longest side being less than 2mm long).
I would suggest that if you have a warranty that you send it off. If you don't have one then there are plenty of repair services avaliable on the internet such as ebay. If you have the skill and time to replace the F1 fuse yourself then there are a few items you will need: A soldering iron ad solder, A replacement SMD 0603 1A fuse (ebay have these, search F1 or F2 fuse), A triwing screwdriver (found on ebay, search DS lite triwing screwdriver). A precision crosshead screwdriver.
If you would like a guide on how to dismantle the DS lite and the location of the F1 fuse then click on my name and you will find the relevant guideson my profile page.

Well try taking it apart and letting it dry, and you can buy replacement DS parts, such as top/bottom screens, from Amazon. however, to take it apart, you're going to need a triwing screwdriver, also available on Amazon.com.
Hi the easy way is to type: "nintendo ds lite replacement case tutorial" into youtube there are many videos giving good step by step instructions showing how to replace the casing. You will also need a triwing screwdriver for 4 screws in the lower part of the DS lite (these can be bought on ebay for a couple of euro)
Recalibrate the touch screen in the DS main setup menu. If still having problems then you might need a new touch pad for your screen to get it working right again. Look for repair guides here or using google.com if you intend to repair it yourself as it is not really a difficult repair if you have the right tools (triwing and philips screwdriver) and the parts (ds lite touch pad).
Unfortunately, online is the only place to get the triwing screwdriver. There are several Canadian sites to get them (which I did), if that is your concern, otherwise ebay.
Please examine you power jack on the console. Maybe there is something broken or loose in there. Possibly, the power pin lifted off the board and may need to be resoldered. Opening up the unit is your only choice. I have opened up several units. http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/how-to-disassemble-a-ds-lite-in-minutes
