Favourite game wont play on vista

Hi, i up graded to vista but now find alot of my games wont work. They seem like they install but then when I click on the icon to play it comes up with an error message.

I really want to play Message in a Haunted Mansion but it comes up with:
ERROR - incorrect path to INI file - C:\Nancy Drew\Message in a Haunted Mansion\Game.INI

Is there any possible way to fix this..

Goto properties of the file and in the compatibility tab enable "run this in compability for" and select the OS in which it used to work well... this might help....

New game won't install. Game made for vista installing on W 7. Auto play window dosent come up. Don't know if it's computor or cd.

Sometime Auto-Play doesn't come up and you have to manually locate the setup.
1) Go to My Computer and right click on the drive containing the game CD.
2) Then click explore on the popup menu.
3) Now locate the setup.exe file and double click it, this should start to install the game.

If the game doesn't work on your Operating System then it would say so during the install. This shouldn't happen though if you are using a Windows OS such as XP, Vista or Win7.

Your rating on this solution is much appreciated, this can be done by clicking on the thumbs up at the top right of this solution.
Thanks.

I have windows 7. When i try to play Nancy Drew: Danger by design a box pops up requesting i insert disc 1. There is only one disc! It seems to work ok on windows xp. Ca you suggest anything to make it...

From the Nancy Drew web site:

Windows Vista/7 Support Installing older games (#1-13) with Windows Vista/7.
While our older games are not completely Windows Vista/7 compliant (notably games #1-13), there is a workaround which has been successful for most players. Please take the following steps to manually install.
If you had previously installed, uninstall the game and then delete all remaining game file folders from your computer, including emptying them out of your Recycle Bin. These files may be in one of the following locations:
C:\Nancy Drew\
C:\Program Files\Nancy Drew\
In your Documents folder: C:\Users\Username\Documents\
Once this is done, make sure you're logged on as an Administrator for your computer and manually install by taking the following steps:
1. Go to your "Documents" folder and create a new folder. Rename the folder with the title of the game.
2. Insert game Disk 1 in your disk drive and open "Computer" from the "Start" menu.
3. Double-click on your CD-Rom/DVD drive, look for a Setup or Setup Launcher Installshield file. Double-click this file to start the installation process.
4. When install asks what directory you want your game to install to, click "Browse".
5. Navigate to the game folder you created by selecting "C:" drive, then "Users" (or User name), then "Documents", then select the game folder.
6. Continue forward with the installation process, when asked if you want to install DirectX, check "No, I will install myself".
7. Upon completion, uncheck the "Play Now" box, click finish and exit setup.
For game titles #1-5, follow these three additional steps:
1. Right-click the game icon that is now on your desktop, select "Properties".
2. Under "Properties", click on the "Compatibility" tab.
3. Check the "Run in Compatibility Mode" box and then select "Windows 98/Me" from the drop-down menu.
You should now be able to open and play the game. If you installed an older version of DirectX with the game, please go to Microsoft's Download Center to download and install the latest version of DirectX for your version of Windows.

Have football manager 2010 it installed fine but wont run!

There are two different versions of the game available for PC and MAC, a 'strawberry' and 'vanilla' version, with both providing half a season of gameplay.
PC
OS: Windows XP/Vista/W7
Processor: XP: 1.4GHz or Faster / Vista/W7 : 2.0GHz or Faster
Supported Processors: Intel Pentium 4, Intel Core, AMD Athlon
Memory: XP: 512MB RAM / Vista/W7: 1.0GB RAM
Hard Drive Space: 2GB
DVD-Drive: 4x Speed
Video Card: 128MB *Supported Chipsets : (see below)
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible
Directx: Version 9.0c (included)
LAN: TCP/IP compliant
Input: Keyboard, Mouse

*Supported Chipsets - Nvidia FX 5900 Ultra or greater; ATI Radeon 9800 or greater; Intel 82915G/82910GL or greater. Earlier cards may only display 2D Match Viewer Mode and are not supported. Earlier cards may require the DirectX 9.0 SDK is installed to run the game. To download DirectX Software Development Kit click here.

Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported.

Mac
Intel Processor, OS X 10.5, NVidia Geforce 7300 GT / ATI X1600 Radeon

SOLUTION 1:
1. Right click on the game icon, select Properties and click the tab Compatibility,
2. Select the proper compatibility mode for your PC,
3. Run the game.
This may solve your problem.
SOLUTION 2:
While many different errors and problems may occur while attempting to run a game within Windows (from corruption in graphics and sound to black screens on loading or crashing) the majority can be quite easily fixed with some input from the user. To see General Windows Troubleshooting (for crashes, graphic and sound issues etc) to solve the problem click here.
SOLUTION 3:
Using Daemon tools software you can mount the game image (virtual drive) and by installing the game you can manage to play. Click here to download Daemon Tools.

I hope this helps you.

My vista laptop will not allow me to play a game as I do not have the latest OS????

Ah - its not Vista at fault here but the game - it does not recognise Vista properly. Re-install the game by righ clicking on the installer and choosing Troubleshoot Compatibility - then trouble shoot - say it worked on previous version of Windows

Vista will then Emulate XP and it should then work fine.

If this helped please vote kindly

Hi im bright and my problem is am using the vista pack 1.1 and i can't play games like road rash and the rest on my PC

It appears that you are trying to run older games. these may or may not work, but your best chance is to run and install them in compatibility mode.

Right-Click the Shortcut
Select Properties
Select Compatibility Tab
Select Radio Button for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
Select the Operating System for which this game was designed

If this does not work, you could go to the extreme of installing Microsoft Virtual machine, and install Windows 98 'virtually' withing that see http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx

Hope this helps
