We have the same problem with our two SSC DVRs. We've tried both a 4GB and 1GB Sony memory stick pro duo (with adapter sleeve). I suspect that the machine may only support something like 256MB, but would like to know before I track down an old memory stick.

I've tracked down the company that is supposed to provide support for this product (www.gviss.com) and sent their tech support an email. I'll repost if they send me a reply.

I can't find a 128 MB memory stick anywhere, and are actually very dissapointed we were sold the SSC DVR without being notified features such as the memory port would be obsolete...

I got a phone call from GVI. Here's the scoop:

The SSCDVR only supports up to a 128MB memory stick. This was the highest capacity available when the SSCDVR was manufactured.

Further, the memory stick must have the standard Sony interface. This isn't to say that it has to be a Sony, just that it has to have that standard. Lexar and ?Magicgate? are other possibilities.

I don't think anything that says "duo" or "pro" and comes with an adapter sleeve will work. It has to be the "old", full-size stick.

GVI tech support says that the stick will hold 2-6 minutes of video in an encrypted format. It will save as an executable that can be viewed on your computer. If you need more than the number of minutes that the memory stick can hold, you need to sneakernet the card to your computer, copy the file there, then take the stick back to your DVR, erase the stick there, and load on the next batch. Repeat until you have all the data you need.

As a workaround, I use a VCR or DVD burner to back off audio and video. I plug an S-vid cable from the back of the svid-out of the DVR to the s-vid in on the video device. I run an RCA cable from the audio out on the DVR to one of the audio ins on the video device. (I lost my mono to stereo RCA cable, but it seems to work fine this way anyhow.)

Then you just get the DVR to the right place for the event you want to back up, hit record on your video device, and you are good to go!

How to install activex manually?

To view your DVR remotely through the internet web interface, you must properly set your ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer.
First - Make sure you are not connected to or ar tying to connect to the DVR! Close the Browser and open a new one if you have to.
In your Internet Explorer browser, select the Tools drop-down menu above, and choose Internet Options. Choose the Security tab in the corresponding pop-up window that comes up.
[img src="http://asapcctv.com/software/standalone/img/SecurityTab.jpg">

Now click on the Custom Level button at the bottom of the Internet Options window. Scroll down until you see ActiveX controls and Settings, and apply the following changes:[img src="http://asapcctv.com/software/standalone/img/CustomLevel.jpg">

Follow the image below for the correct ActiveX Settings. (The settings as shown does not make your system more vulnerable, but maximizes your browser's security, while putting the choice of operation in your hands on a case-per-case basis.)
NOTE: These settings reflect versions 6-9 of Internet Explorer. Depending upon your version of IE, your controls may not follow exactly the same order or have all the options shown below -- Just make sure those you do have match what is shown.
[img src="http://asapcctv.com/software/standalone/img/ActiveX.jpg">
OK, and then return to your browser by clicking OK again.
Close your Browser and open a new one. You should now be able to install any ActiveX controls needed to run any DVR remote software.
Be sure to accept any requests for software installation after typing your DVR address into the browser address bar. There may be several controls to install.
