My Whirlpool gas dryer is starting up on its own. I went down and made sure that it was set in the off position thinking that I may have inadvertently turned it on. I walked away and later it started itself again. It has been doing this all day now. Thanks Chris

most gas dryers will have a problem with the 2 coils on top of the valve. when these coils are weak or going bad, it will heat for a short while then no heat at all. if you let the unit set for an hour or 2, it will heat again for a short peroid. the coils are easy to replace, but do get both of them.
Well being "new" I'd not suspect many parts being defective other than the ignitor for the gas burner. You can view its operation behind the kick panel below the door. It should glow brightly when your dryer is calling for ignition. It may have been damaged if you had dropped it or very roughly handled your dryer wrestling it into position. Otherwise i'd suspect that the gas line is still turned off, or a wire loose somewhere, or the heat setting in "air fluff".. best of luck, and have fun, ttfn
You are probably hearing the timer count down, which means the timer is working right. This sounds more like your start switch is out. If you email or callus with your model number, we'll be sure to get the right parts out to you rigth away so you can get this repaired. We look forward to hearing back from you soon. Hope this answers your question.
