Re: Can't Install this Correctly
Actually, why did you think you needed to install it in the first place? You may have had a software problem. Otherwise, Acer does have a real telephone number for support--their supposed automated system will drive you to the loony bin. They should be able to help. If you get a

Moving a hard drive that has been setup for one computer to another computer will not work because the hardware differences between computers and the installed device drivers. If the computers are the same make and model then it may work. Usually you need to install Windows from scratch after you move the hard drive from one computer to another.
The fact that it opens and closes means you are very close in getting it to work correctly.
Could we take a moment to sort out the technical aspects of what you are asking/saying?
Sata Driver on IDE Motherboard? A driver is software that is installed to the Operating System. Do you mean a SATA Converter, so that the IDE connection is changed into a SATA connection? If so, let's move on.
The cords that you connected, is it two (usually)red cords with single black ends at each end? If so, let's move on.
If we have got this far, you will have to enter the BIOS settings to ensure that the motherboard has found your new DVD. If you have your manual it will explain which button to push on initial bootup to enter BIOS. It can be "delete", "F2 or F12', manufacturers are not consistent on this. Once in BIOS you need to make sure all options for the IDE drives are on "auto", makes the BIOS do the work for you.
You do not have to install the DVD, the BIOS recognises the new Drive as a Storage Device like a Hard Drive, no drivers needed.
Although the other thing after successfully getting the drive to read discs is you will need to install the optional programmes such as Power DVD for watching movies and Nero for burning DVD?CD's.
Sounds like a case of jumper settings. If the CD-RW was installed as secondary IDE to an existing hard drive which is the Master, pls set jumper to SL. They are located at the rear of the CD unit between the IDE connector and the audio out.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
I dont think you need a code to install the drive, you just need to ensure our jumper setting on the back is correct. You might need a serial number (code) to install the burning software.. If you think i didnt understand your questio correctly please explain further
is your hard drive the master on the primary cable? You shouldn't need a digital audio cable unless you want digital audio. Are you using Nero software witht he drive? may have to re-install the software, or better, uninstall it, clear the registry with CCleaner (free download on the web) and then try a fresh install.
If you only think youve installed correctly, double check the jumpers on back whether master or slave depending on which ide cable is used and whether there are two devices or one on the ide cable.
was the cdrom recognised by windows when it was rebooted after install and automatically installed?
check on the device manager on the ide/atapi controllers see if ultra dma is being used.
