I can't turn on the built in webcam gx700 MSI laptop LIVE Messenger doesn't register/list it.

Verify that you have a built in webcam or that your external webcam is connected properly to your computer. Refer to your computer or webcam user manuals if necessary.

Download and install the instant messenger of your choice, such as Skype, Microsoft Windows Live Messenger or Google Talk. (See Resources for links.)

Open the instant messenger client. Sign in or create a logon ID according to client instructions. Open the webcam application on the instant messenger client and click "OK."

To make the camera go, you need some type of software to run it. Often you can get to to turn on with Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Skype. Many computers do not have camera software provided, which is strange.

You are sure you have a webcam, right? In the manual, it shows the webcam as optional. Is a webcam listed on the box, the white label with the serial #, that the netbook came in?

If you do have one, you have to turn it on first. The manual, pg 2-9, tells you how to turn it on. Press the Fn+F6 keys at the same time(or while holding down the Fn key, press the F6 key) to turn the webcam on and off.

If your webcam is working then check it is configured to work in stand alone mode, you need to switch to Remote mode to other to work with any live messsenger.

Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
2. Then click on the Video Settings.
3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

C. Windows Live Messenger:
Go to this site http://download.live.com/?sku=messenger and download Windows Live Messenger.

1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.

NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

Try to press FN key together with F6 to makes the webcam works

Windows Messenger is pretty much hit and miss. I have a built in webcam on my laptop. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. There's no real fix to this problem, just cross your fingers. Restarting your computer works sometimes but not always.

I'm using a Toshiba satellite notebook A200, which I faced the same problem like you saying my built- in webcam cannot operate after I clicked on the drop down list from the windows live messenger to have a webcam conversation. Another program is running the webcam at startup. That program is called Camera Assistant Software which is the conflicting software. Therefore I closed this software and I'm able to use my webcam again in my webcam conversation in windows live messenger. I hope this information will help you.Good Luck!
