Sounds like a power problem.
This model of phone will work as a regular corded phone when no ac power is available.
IE the cordless function is only available when you have electricity.
- is the ac adapter plugged into a working outlet.
- is the ac adapter working.
- is the ac adapter pluged into the base.

hope this helps

SOURCE: uniden 5.8Ghz phone.

You need to reset the main base unit. Unplug the power from the back of the base. While the power is disconnected, press and hold the delete key while reconnecting the power. Wait for a long beep tone. When the display shows 88 or P, press play button one time. If you have a phone without an answering machine, disconnect the power from the back of the base, press and hold find hs button while reconnecting power.

SOURCE: I have a phillips CD240 cordless phone, on the

Hi, I solved this issue this morning. "Searching" means the handset cannot find the signal from its base, and if you check your base, it's more likely than not, dead. In my case, I checked this by pressing any button on the base, i.e. answer phone etc., there was no response (although the handset seems to recharge power fine for some reason).

Therefore, I went and bought a new cheap GAP compatible (binatone 1800 Single at Comet - 14.99). I then set up the base, put it in the registration mode as per the binatone instruction. Then on the Phillips CD245 handset and gone through the above registration procedure... and Voila! It worked.

Now I have a brand new base that came with 1 new handset of its own, and 3 additional CD245 handsets which are all registered with this base. So far, the sound quality is good (no different from the previous genuine set) and they retained all the telephone numbers registered with the handset.

I don't have any high regards to binatone specifically as a brand because our last corded phone system was rubbish and died shortly after 12 months guarantee but to me it looks as if GAP compatible cordless phones have certain life-span however cheap or expensive they are (while handset seem to last much longer). Threrefore, there is more incentive to buy a cheap base new (of any make that are GAP Compatible) then connect your old handset to this base and live on 12 months manufacturer's guarantee and hopefully more. On the web, I saw some comments that are saying GAP Compatible phones and base sometimes do not successfully register each other (despite even being of the same make or brand). Obviously the users make such attempt at her/his own risk but I can confirm that the above combination worked for me.

Just for info, to do the registration successfully, the both base and handset must be in "Registering" mode. First, to get the base in the registration mode, you have to press <page> (a paging function for handset in case you cannot find where they are - usually button that says <page>or speaker with sound symbol on the base) more than 5 seconds, then the base is in the "Register Mode"(though you will hear no beep). You can then go through the procedure you describe on the handset and the handset should beep with assigned number no more than 10 seconds after it flashed "Waiting".

I hope this is helpful.

Best,
Ken

The above, however, works only if the Base is still functioning.

My EnGenius cordless is not responding. You can not answer or make calls on it.I tried to turn it off-it's not responding

It has somehow unregistered with the base unit. Go to the base with your handheld. On the handheld menu, you can select "register". Try that by first. Next, press the gray (usually) button on the base unit and register the cordless again. If no go, de-register the cordless and try the steps again. Post for more if those did not work.

Uniden model d1364 cordless phone buzzes, sounds like bad connection, when being used, how to stop buzzing sound

Try moving the base unit that the phone cord is plugged into. Keep it away from heavy power users like the microwave and refrigerator. You would also want to keep it away from other transmitters such as your wireless router. Also make sure the base unit is not near your power meter or circuit breaker box. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Very loud buzzing

The sound can also be caused by a faulty outside line. You can bring in a different telephone (like one at your house) and see if the buzzing sound disappears. If not its either a line problem or a jack/wire problem.

Constant Buzzing sound on recipients end

it might be due to EMI(electromagnetic interference). if other phones or internet lines r nearby, u can hear the buzzing sound.. if EMI is the cause, then its best to keep the phones isolated from the devices causing them. Good luck!!

Speaker phone volume keeps going loud and quiet

Did the location change, a Echo from a wall or vibration from the table. It is a one way sound, someone talks and you hear. As soon as you talk it cuts out the speaker even if they are still talking and it transmitts what you say. So any noise in the room could trigger the the transmit mode even an echo from the sound being turned up too loud. The mike is on the bottom of the base and can pick up table vibration and send it into transmit mode. So the person talking cuts in and out.

Ac adaptor was dropped on ground, and makes a BUZZING SOUND. Is it safe to still use

It may not hurt anything; the transformer in the adapter has iron laminations which are normally potted with epoxy to keep them quiet as well as stabilising their magnetic characteristics. Dropping it has caused one or more laminations to come loose but it probably won't affect anything. You might feel the adapter now and then for a few days to ensure it is not running hot; warm is OK.

. A new handset arrives with a handset ID number of 00, to register this handset to your system take the following steps:
  1. On the EnGenius base unit press and hold down both the "Volume" & "Intercom" buttons for about five seconds. You will hear a beep from the base unit. You can now release the two buttons.
  2. On the EnGenius handset (00), press the following buttons: "menu", "6", "1".
  3. A new handset ID number (ie: 12, 13, 14…) is automatically assigned by the base and registration is complete.
