Question about ASUS A8N-E Motherboard

1 Answer

Motherboard may have fried MB but not sure. computer kept shutting down, couldn't reboot (getting a no config.sys notice) finally rebooted did a "repair" install of windows( I know they're usually no good but didn't want to go through the hassle of installing drivers again), worked fine for a day then shut down and now won't reboot with windows CD, it does the initial windows xp setup then as it gets ready to install windows tells me there's no HD. HD is good, got stuff off it. Once I tried starting it in safe mode, then I got the blue screen of death once I picked a user

Sata hdd recognized intermittenly and installation sometimes sata hdd detected and sometimes lost halfway

Hello
Try disconnecting the hd from the motherboard, then reboot.

Shut down all power to pc unplug from wall, then reconnect hd,restart pc.

Be sure that in the bios settings your hd is set for autodetection,if there is a sata option just use auto.

I noticed something called antispyware soft kept popping up saying my computer was infected... I tried to do system restore but it wouldn't come up. I shut it down and tried to reboot in safe mode and get...

You fell for malware that is sent to 'infect' unsuspecting users. Since it will not boot up now, the best is to wipe the disk and install from scratch. A recovery disk from the same type should work, but no guarantees.

I can not install ALCXWDM.SYS to enable my speakers as the computer shuts down halfway and reboots

Try uninstalling all the drivers in the add/remove programs in the control panel and removing the device on the device manager.. Reboot and install again... if problem persist than possibly hardware is faulty..

Computer does not boot

If you computer over heated, this could have caused the board or power supply to short. I would first start by trying a new power supply unit (since this is cheapest of the options). If that does not work then try replacing the motherboard and/or processor. Since you not getting any power, my guess is motherboard or power supply unit.

Aopen mx36le-un motherboard replaced

If your HD is connected via IDE (a wide, flat cable) try reversing it. If not, go into the bios and make sure that your SATA ports are enabled, all IDE functions etc.
If not, your drive could be fried. If you have another computer to test the drive in, that would be handy.

Shutting down then starting back up whenever

Ya. If it keeps re-booting then it may be a virus (my things virus)
If not, go to system properties and start up and recovery settings. remove reboot on error settings (in XP) It doesnt fix the root cause but may stop your frustration

Can not save to bios

windows and the bios needs to know that the operating system can be shut down through windows, so when you go into the F2 or Del on boot up, go into advanced cmos setings and look for ACPI and make sure it is enabled. This sets the motherboard to support shutdown. Save and exit settings and reboot. Now go to control panel>performance and maintanance>power options and set the correct instruction for shutdown to shut the pc down. Remember evertime you remove the cmos battery or reset with jumpers you have to reset date and time and anything else you have changed to suit your set up
